Amazon Wants to Develop Your Film

Posted: November 18th, 2010 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Amazon Wants to Develop Your FilmSubmit Comment
Amazon just announced that it has launched Amazon Studios, a production company that asks users to submit their feature-length films and screenplays to the site for other users to review and vote on.

Each month, starting in January, two scripts and one test film will be chosen and awarded cash grants - $20,000 for each screenplay and $100,000 for the film. At the end of next year, one screenplay and one film will be chosen as the annual winners. That script will take home a $100,000 prize and the film a $1 million prize.

Amazon has a first-look deal with Warner Bros, but if the studio passes, Amazon will then shop the projects around elsewhere. Upon the release of a finished movie, the filmmaker or screenwriter who originated the project will receive a rights payment of $200,000. Should the film gross more than $60 million domestically, a $400,000 bonus will be triggered.

The terms are some of the worst around, but this opportunity may give a filmmaker or writer the chance to meet the right people and eventually have a career in Hollywood. If this sounds interesting to you, click here to learn more.

I want a porno with me as the star and co-starring Johanson,Portman, Emma Stone and Emma Watson. I'm sure it'll gross 60 million.

Oh yeah, and ANYONE that uploads a film or script on there immediately enters into a 18 month binding agreement with Amazon, which effectively means that Amazon owns your project. And you cannot even attempt to sell said script anywhere else for that 18 months.

Again if you upload your stuff on there, for 18 months Amazon owns it.

Which means you get stuck in an elevator with George Lucas and pitch him that script and he decides he wants to make a movie out of it, you are sh*t out of luck because technically Amazon owns that script.

And even if you never win a single dime from them, they have full ownership of your script/film for the full 18 months.

Also anyone and everyone can take your project, change it around a little bit, and it still counts as a viable revision of that project. Amazon has no plans of deleting ANY revision, well because by not doing that they effectively own ALL of the revisions.

The good thing is that it is the original writer that gets the contest winnings, but if someone revises your sh*t enough to where the major studios are interested, guess who will be the FIRST schmuck completely cut out of a major studio deal.

And absolutely no eligibility difference between Joe Blo who has never sold anything, and professional film makers and screenplay writers that have sold multiple projects.

...And let me tell you, I know a ton of professional screenplay writers that are just giddy with excitement at naturally being the cream that rises to the top of this particular heap.

@ JohnZee...i agree completely...i have several ideas for some great movies, particularly one for a good stand alone film with no sequels whatsoever...but i'll never let any studio near it unless the studio is my bitch
