We just reported that director Stephen Soderbergh is in final negotiations to direct a big screen version of "The Man From UNCLE," and now comes word that the filmmaker is already in talks with George Clooney to play the lead.
He and Clooney worked together on multiple projects, including "Ocean's Eleven," "Ocean's Twelve," "Ocean's Thirteen," "Solaris," "The Good German," and "Out of Sight." The film could go into production before the end of 2011 and will be set in the 1960.
"UNCLE" aired on NBC from 1964-68, during a Cold War period that saw numerous spy shows hit the airwaves. James Bond author Ian Fleming was even a creator of the show, which focused on the adventures of American and Russian members of a secret agency called the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement.

I can see this happening. George is a good call. And Big_Daddy ain't that far off with his statement. I like George... but the last movie of his I saw was either Syriana or O Brother where art thou.

If Clooney is playing Napoleon Solo, it would be kickass to get Viggo Mortensen as Illya Kuryakin. Recall Viggo was amazing as Nikolai in Eastern Promises. As this is a spy espionage film, I am hoping the tone is serious and bloody like a Bourne film. Except more International and large scale as UNCLE is backed by US and Russian Governments.
