"Megamind" Stops "Unstoppable" at Box Office

"Megamind" Stops "Unstoppable" at Box OfficeSubmit Comment
For the second week in a row, Will Ferrell's animated "Megamind" movie took first place at the box office. It grossed another $30 million for a new domestic total of $89 million, which is still short of the $130 million budget.

"Unstoppable" runaway-train thriller, starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine, had to settle for second place. The film opened to $23.5 million, which puts it in a difficult position to make back it's $100 million budget.

The new alien invasion film "Skyline" opened to $11.7 million, which was good enough for fourth place. Considering it cost only $10 million to make, the new movie is considered a success. A sequel is already being planned.

The other wide release, "Morning Glory," starring Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton, opened to only $9.6 million on a $40 million budget. Domestically, movies usually end up grossing three times their opening numbers, which means that "Glory" will be struggling to break even.

Skyline cost $10 million to make?! Looks like a sh*tty movie but the special effects least looked decent

Skyline cost 20 million less than District 9? Well, the reviews have been pretty awful so the film isn't truly a "success."

Meh, studios care more about financial success than critical acclaim. Not in all cases, but definitely in this case. If people are stupid enough to see it, well...

Also, I don't know if it's a Typo, but Alex never mentioned the third contender in this list. Robert Downey Jr.'s "Due Date".

Skyline (Shaking my head)

Twice those Brothers Strause have tricked me into the cinema shame on them (and me).

Some good ideas here but full of people you couldn't give a sh*t about and when making a chase movie that is a bit of a problem. Plus their strange fixation with pregnant women and Aliens trying to do things to them, what is that all about.

Credit them for the effects if they did make it for $10mil, But i read it was more like $20-30mil but most of it was their own money that went into it.

Which makes me feel a little better, i lost 90 mins of life they could lose a couple of million, fair trade.

" Get ready this weekend to watch an UNSTOPPABLE MOURNING GLORY(hole) of a movie, which will make you wish you could rather stare at the SKYLINE (currently under a lawsuit regarding a BATTLE in LOS ANGELES). "

When the only guy I recognize in a movie played a boyfriend who might as well have put his penis in his girlfriend's purse in Clueless, then f*ck that $ 3.00 bargin bin Wal-Mart future dvd set.
