Mel Gibson Got Paid $750,000 for "The Hangover 2"?

Mel Gibson Got Paid $750,000 for "The Hangover 2"?Submit Comment
Director Todd Phillips offered Mel Gibson the chance to appear in "The Hangover" sequel, but was forced to withdraw the offer after some of the cast and crew fought against the decision.

Gibson was eventually replaced by Liam Neeson, but now comes word from the National Enquirer that Gibson had a "pay or play" deal, which means that he gets paid whether he's in the movie or not. And the amount he earned for doing nothing is $750,000.

Keep in mind that actors like Adrien Brody get $600,000 "pay or play" deals to star in independent films. So for Gibson to get more when no one in Hollywood wants anything to do with him seems a bit crazy. Plus, is Warner Bros willing to lose that much amount of money simply because Zach Galifianakis complained?

Anything is possible in Hollywood. Then again, this news is from the National Enquirer.

In related news: Gibson was supposed to play a tattoo artist in Thailand. It was assumed that Neeson would take over the role, but Neeson has revealed that his part is something completely different.

Maybe it was a set up from the get go ?

Has anyone heard Mel comment on the issue?

CC-

Just doesn't need to be made.

Like Animal House (one of my favorite films) they struk Boxoffice gold with that movie but never made a part 2.

It's all about the money and i got a feeling this is going to be about as good as Porkys 2: the next day was , which was not all that at all...

That's probably what Galafianakis' fat ass takes home from the entire movie.

Pretty easy money for Mel. I worked my ass off last week to make $400 that I threw away on booze and partying.

@tt - 'Like Animal House (one of my favorite films) they struk Boxoffice gold with that movie but never made a part 2.' --- back when Hollywood had original ideas, class and respect (at least a bit more).

As soon as I read this headline I was looking for the 'pay or play' phrase. Good for Mel. He should use the $'s and hire someone to give oSUCKa 'The O.J. Treatment!'

This is from Mike Wallace and the National Enquirer ? Whew! At first, I thought it was from an unreliable source ... like Perez Hilton.

Ranger -

That movie made about $140 mil in the US alone back in 1978 which is over $450mil today adjusted and all that.

(Most)People in Hollywood back then didn't really want to be involved in sequels, now they will just milk a franchise to death.

oSUCKa 'The O.J. Treatment! lol

Is there Lawyer out there as good as the late Johnnie Cochran too make sure Mel gets away "scott free"...

Well, clearly, its because Mel Gibson f*ckin deserves it. And now, Galifanakis should just smile and blow him :/ Mel deserves that too...

Well if this story is true (National Enquirer so only about a 30% chance.), then that means that Mel Gibson got paid $600,000 more for a few minutes of footage that's never going to be used, then Chris Hemsworth is getting paid to play Thor in a little movie called "Thor".

Oh yeah that speaks volumes about which studio is going to win the DC Comic Book Movies versus the Marvel Comic Book movies...

...Heck in five years if Marvel and Marvel Studios keep this up, there won't be a reputable actor in Hollywood that would even consider working for them. And that's not even going into directors and the rest of the production crews they hire, because they don't pay them sh*t either...

STFU zach you arrogant *sshole. thanks for ruining the movie twatguzzler. Gibson woulda been prime.
Ranger writes:

@JohnZ --- is Hemsworth getting paid even less that Chris Evans is for CA (@ $300-350K)?!?!

I don't think it'll take those 5 years you speculate for any good actors to turn their nose up at Marvel offers.
JohnZee writes:

@Ranger

Hollywood Reporter's Premiere issue has an article in it about Marvel, and in that article is is plainly stated in black and white that Chris Hemsworth got paid $150,000 to play Thor, and no piece of the profit pie down the road on that movie.

(No info on how much he'll get paid for a lesser screen time movie like Avengers...)

Not only that, but the only reason Chris Evans got what he did was that Marvel accountants could point out that since he had already proven himself in two other Marvel movies, they figured they'd pay him more for being a loyal bitch...

...And I think you are right about five years being too long. Especially considering that The Hollywood Reporter magazine decided to devote major space and pages to the...ahem CHEAPNESS of Marvel.
