Danny Boyle on "Trainspotting" SequelPosted: November 8th, 2010 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
RopeOfSilicon caught up with Danny Boyle (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire) and asked him about the rumored "Trainspotting" sequel, which the director previously said he would love to eventually make.
"'Trainspotting' will definitely happen, I think," he said. "That's only my opinion, obviously there's a lot of people involved. My opinion is that you just know that film will happen at some point."
The sequel takes place ten years after the first film, but Boyle is planning to wait 20 years to make sure the actors look at least ten years older. "Ten years you don't even notice with actors," he explained. "Trainspotting" was made in 1996, so Boyle won't even consider a follow-up until 2016.
Meanwhile, Ewan McGregor keeps changing his mind about whether he wants to be involved with the sequel. We last heard that he found Irvine Welsh's follow-up novel "Porno" not very good.

Begby already looks fifteen years older. Damn this guy makes good movies, but this move is very questionable.

Loved Trainspotting (not everyones cup of tea though)and would love to see a part 2.
McGregor is right though Porno is not as good as Train, it's a bit all over the place but i'm sure with Boyle in control he can make a good movie out of it.
And it must have a kickass Soundtrack like the 1st movie as well.

Is Porno a direct sequel or is just using similar characters?

AYT-
I'm going to watch it tonight mate sky plus, really Looking forward to it, will let you know what i thought later.
Freud -
Yes it is a direct sequel to Trainspotting and has the main characters from the 1st movie are in it (and some from glue as well) and their paths all cross ten years later, it's porn this time instead of drugs that links them all back together again.

Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a f*cking big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin can openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of f*cking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the f*ck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing f*cking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, f*cked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life . . . But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life: I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?

Trainspotting is f*cking incredible. Glad to see Boyle is putting it far in the future so it can either fizzle away or sizzle into something. He has other priorities that need to be discussed and formulated (ahem, 28 Months Later). But regardless, I have faith in the dude for whatever he does. He made one not amazing movie (The Beach) and after completely changing pace with 127 Hours, which is amazing, he can literally do anything. He is definitely, along with Nolan and Fincher, one of the best working directors today and may find himself very high on my list of favorite directors of all time.
