Steven Spielberg Wanted "Harry Potter" Movies to be Animated

Steven Spielberg Wanted "Harry Potter" Movies to be AnimatedSubmit Comment
LA Times put together an article on the history of the "Harry Potter" films, revealing that they could have gone in a completely different direction if it wasn't for Alan Horn, the President of Warner Bros.

Back when only the first book was released in England (not yet in America), Warners jumped to acquire the film rights to the first four "Harry Potter" novels. The studio immediately tried to get a financial partner, reaching out to Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks, which initially passed.

But once the books became a huge hit, developing the movies became a huge priority for Warner Bros, which was ran by Alan Horn. DreamWorks finally saw potential and decided to consider the partnership, but this time, Horn declined.

"I did think it would be worthwhile for Steven Spielberg to direct," Horn said. "We offered it to him. But one of the notions of DreamWorks' and Steven's was, 'Let's combine a couple of the books, let's make it animated,' and that was because of the [visual effects and] Pixar had demonstrated that animated movies could be extremely successful. Because of the wizardry involved, they were very effects-laden. So I don't blame them. But I did not want to combine the movies, and I wanted it to be live action."

An animated version could have given Harry facial expressions unlike Daniel Radcliffe's robotic, queer sounding rendition. Worst actor in the film had to be the title character the mug!

So, Spielberg is doing animation right now. I bet Indy 5 will also be in animation.

Smart man. Instead of combining he just wanted to do it one at a time and is laughing all the way to the bank

Glad they didn't do it that way. If they did we wouldn't have gotten to watch sexy Emma grow(my boner) up before our very eyes.

@CCBlev: I agree.

Not to mention Spielberg considered to move Howards to L.A.!

Thank God it didn't go Horn's or Spielberg's way!!! Steven passed because he got rich and fat and lost his insight, vision and drive.

Horn... Warner Bros. couldn't self-finance this?! f*ck off!

Emma... Mmmmmmm...

Its a real shame Spielberg and the rest of the pack lost 'it'.

Harry Potter being animated is like Cowboys owner Jerry Jones getting another facelift ... why throw good stucco on top of bad, when the whole damn structures rotten to begin with.

@boogiel

If so, then we can make fun of Shia's voice without actually having to see LeDouche's godawful facial reaction (he only has one, like he's getting orally satisfied by Michael Bay).

Oh no. No, no, no-no-no... you're so wrong about Shia!

Spielberg...Spielberg...I'm trying to place the name. Isn't he that guy that's been working on an animated film, or something, for something like a decade, concerning a dog or whatever that is completely unknown in the United States?

Or perhaps I'm confusing him with some other two-bit has-been loser director.

Why not? Indy 4 was 80% CG. Sounds like the evolution of crap right there.
