Leonardo DiCaprio to Play Serial Killer in "Devil in the White City"Submit Comment
Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production company has acquired film rights to "The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic and Madness At The Fair That Changed America," the 2003 non-fiction book by Erik Larson.

DiCaprio will star in the movie as Dr. HH Holmes, a cunning serial killer believed to have murdered anywhere from 27 to 200 people at a time when the city of Chicago was enthralled with hosting the World's Fair of 1893.

The sociopath used charm and guile to lure guests into his newly-constructed The World's Fair Hotel (known as a "murder castle") which has a gas chamber, crematorium and a dissecting table where Holmes would murder his victims and strip their skeletons to sell for medical and scientific study.

Must be awkward being a black man living in what's known as White City.

Finally! Too bad he wasn't a cannibal also.

Chicago is known for it's CONDOMENTS.

In that time of the century, wouldn't it have been more accurate to say The White Devil in the City ?

That's some quite fine policework to narrow it down to a number anywhere between 27 and 200...

was DiCaprio a blind, deaf, crippled, retarded slave in a past life? how can anyone have not only have his choice of artistic projects, which do well commercially (and he gets paid handsomely for), but he also gets to nail the hottest chicks on the planet?

Dicaprio a serial killer no ways he's as scary as shia ladouche and his butt buddy malcolm

He is the most overrated sh*t actor I ve ever seen

But who is counting? I mean after 27 you kind of lose track

Wow, Leo playing a one man version of camp Auschwitz. Very clever.

This should be great. The book was excellent, and it'd be great to see DiCaprio play a villian.

DiCaprio as a villain... SOLD!

I blame all the stupid people for making DiCaprio popular enough that he now has his own production company. Somebody stop him, the last thing he did of merit was play himself in Gilbert Grape!
SACdaddy writes:

f*ck yeah Leo! Was wondering when this guy's story would be told, but had know idea it would land such a big star for the title role.

Keep in mind a few things; forensics hadn't been invented yet for police work. Back then someone who was 50 y/o or from a rural area probably did not have a birth certificate and Chicago was teeming with transients and drifters moving from Rural America to the brand new era of Industrialization in Chicago. Also, H. H. Holmes used acid and would grind the bones so that LIETRALLY nothing would be left of many of the bodies, nothing at all! So yeah, he was a wery baaad man.
Orias writes:

Except for the skeletons he sold for money of course. back then it was "no questions asked" and even established medical schools resorted to getting bodies from grave robbers in the underground black market. You can't compare modern times to past times, that is like coparing apples to oranges.
minkowski writes:

The book was terrible. I thought it would actually have something going on, but it spent ages yapping about nothing.

If you're going to make a crime book into a film, at least f*cking redo Chandler's The Big Sleep, or The Little Sister for god's sake, not The Devil in the White City which was utter garbage.
minkowski writes:

Sounds like a bad ripoff of The Barber of Fleet Street.
Willy_Idle writes:

my favorite serial killer being played by an overated actor. yay...
minkowski writes:

The guy has nothing on the Zodiac Killer. Now there was a Moriarty. Or even the Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run.
