"The Hobbit" Cast Announced!Submit Comment
Since "The Hobbit" prequels have already been greenlit and Peter Jackson has been confirmed as the director, Warner Bros is moving forward and has now announced the cast of the upcoming films, which will hit theaters in December of 2012 and December of 2013.

Martin Freeman (Hot Fuzz) will play Bilbo Baggins, the hero of the story. Richard Armitage (Captain America) is set to play Thorin Oakenshield, the leader of the Company of Dwarves which sets off to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from a thieving dragon.

Rounding out the Company of Dwarves are Aidan Turner ("Being Human") and Rob Kazinsky ("EastEnders") who play Kili and Fili, respectively. The remaining dwarves will be played by Graham McTavish (Secretariat) as Dwalin; John Callen ("Power Rangers Jungle Fury") as Oin; Stephen Hunter ("All Saints") as Bombur; Mark Hadlow (King Kong) as Dori; and Peter Hambleton ("The Strip") as Gloin.

Jackson said of Freeman: "Despite the various rumors and speculation surrounding this role, there has only ever been one Bilbo Baggins for us. There are a few times in your career when you come across an actor who you know was born to play a role, but that was the case as soon as I met Martin. He is intelligent, funny, surprising and brave - exactly like Bilbo and I feel incredibly proud to be able to announce that he is our Hobbit."

I'd say "good to see the project moving forward", but as it's being done in 3D, I just don't really care.

Great choice, he was my pick way back, agree with jackson i would say hes born for this.....and yeah no 3D please

3D wouldn't be too bad in the Middlearth. We just need to know if Ian McKellan is willing to return as Gandalf.

Same as you guys good choice with freeman and no to 3D

But someone from Eastenders will be in it (shaking my head at that)

Mash- Pretty sure he will be on board now.

i liked ian holm as bilbo too...i'm glad they found someone to play a younger bilbo that resembles ian holm...great choice...as long as they have a 2D version in theaters, count me in...peter jackson is one of the few directors who knows the story and visuals are all of more importance than 3D will ever be...as for michael bay, he called it a fad and wasn't a fan of it, yet he's making transformers 3 in 3D...what a sell out!

What the hell are you guys talking about? No 3D? They said The Hobbit will be in 3D, and that was way before Avatar's release.
