Unions Call Off "The Hobbit" Boycott, Peter Jackson Doesn't Care

Unions Call Off "The Hobbit" Boycott, Peter Jackson DoesnSubmit Comment
We just wrote about how Warner Bros is planning to move "The Hobbit" from New Zealand to the UK despite how their dispute with an Australia actors union works out. And now comes news that the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) have called off their boycott of the films.

SAG said: "Today, our sister union New Zealand Actors Equity issued a statement recommending all international performer unions rescind their member advisories on the feature film production 'The Hobbit.' In light of this recommendation, Screen Actors Guild will be alerting its members that they are now free to accept engagements, under Screen Actors Guild contract terms and conditions, on 'The Hobbit.'"

But director Peter Jackson did not like being bullied and was shocked how fast SAG and other actors unions called for a boycott of "The Hobbit," despite evidence showing that MEAA Australian union was looking to expand to New Zealand by staging a boycott against the films.

Jackson replied: "The lifting of the blacklist on 'The Hobbit' does NOTHING to help the films stay in New Zealand. The damage inflicted on our film industry by NZ Equity/MEAA is long since done. Next week Warners are coming down to NZ to make arrangements to move the production off-shore. It appears we now cannot make films in our own country - even when substantial financing ($500 million) is available."

She knows how to deal with unions ...

Funny how they tried to blacklist "The Hobbit" after the millions and millions of dollars Peter Jackson has given them throughout his career, and now as a result, no one, outside of locals, will make a movie there for a long, long time. Greedy little f*ckers. Have fun f*cking sheep for the next decade!

Hobbits are like any other machine, they're either a benefit or a hazard... If they're a benefit, it's not my problem

What Evil said. Wonder what they are going to do now that Hollywood has most likely blacklisted them. No director wants that kind of headache especially after years of fair wages? Hell, I wouldn't come back unless they agreed to work for half.

Smart move. The unions would have just waited until he was heavy into filming to f*ck with him again. Cause that's what we need in a sh*t global economy. Unions f*cking up productivity and entertainment so they can get their kickbacks.

Unions = The strong arm of fascism.

Apparently its just the unions being greedy f*cks, and spoiling the entire things for the rest of New Zeland whoa ctually want this thing made.

The Asutralian actors guild union started to influence the NZ equivilant, so it is sad to say that Australians are responsible for this mess.

If they are tryign to get a way to bring production to Australia, they are f*cking idiots. Australia, as much as i love my country, Aint no f*cking middle earth, NZ is Middle Earth and the whoel world recognizes that.

I hope Warner Bros understand that the action by a few union pricks does not represent the beliefs of the NZ people who do really want these films made in their country. There were even protests by people supporting the film, saying 'GET THE f*ck OUT UNIONS'
