Ben Affleck May Direct "Replay," Similar to "Groundhog Day"Submit Comment
After turning down the "Superman" reboot, Ben Affleck is now in talks with Warner Bros to direct and possibly star in "Replay," based on a Ken Grimwood novel which has been adapted by Jason Smilovic (Lucky Number Slevin).

The story revolves around a 43-year old radio journalist who dies, wakes up in his 18-year old body, and gets to relive his life over and over. With his original memory intact, he takes the opportunity to travel down roads he passed up the first time around.

Affleck recently met with Smilovic and gave him a bunch of notes. The writer has gone back to make adjustments to the script. But even though Affleck has expressed interest in the film, he won't decide what he'll direct next until he gets a new draft of "The Trade," the movie about New York Yankees pitchers that he has been looking to direct and star in with Matt Damon.

lost for ideas hollywood??...the story sounds a lot more like 17 again rather than groundhog day, but one year older...and no offense ben, but you're not young enough to look 18 anymore

@synthetic1985

Bingo! It's Body & Soul meets 17 Again meets Oh, Heavenly Dog! meets Groundhogs Day meets The Butterfly Effect meets Heaven Can Wait .... gahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

He should've been reincarnated as John Belushi's penis.

@Freudian

Like that New-Age bullsh*t Field of Dreams ???

It should've been more realistic and have James Earl Jones' character bang the f*ck out of Kevin Costner's character's ass out in the corn field ... where they run into Matt Damon and his retarded, lost family.

@ Max...yea after 'the town' i thought ben affleck had better sense than that...does anybody else here think ben is too young to play an 18 year old?

I have to defend this, one of my favorite novels ever. It was written back in the 80s, prior to most of the "Groundhog Day" stuff that has come since. "Groundhog Day," "12:01" and similarly themed stories are all great, but "Replay" is miles beyond any of them in terms of scope, characterization and mind-boggling concepts. I've waited years for news of a film adaption. Ben Affleck seems fine for the role (although it will be tough to cast not one, but two actors, to play between 18 and 43). Not wild about the mention of the main character being a radio journalist; in the book, he was a bored office worker. Hopefully, there won't just be change for change's sake. Check out the novel. It will change your life.
