"The Hobbit" is Greenlit, Peter Jackson DirectingSubmit Comment
According to The Wrap, "The Hobbit" has officially been greenlit and will start production in February. Peter Jackson has signed on to direct the prequels.

Jackson was already on board to write and produce, and has even started building sets in New Zealand months ago. There have been issues with actors unions, but Warner Bros and MGM are currently negotiating deals with SAG (Screen Actors Guild).

"The Hobbit" prequels are rumored to become the most expensive films of all time, costing as much as $500 million for the pair. $30 million has already been spent and production has yet to begin. The first installment is scheduled to hit theaters on December 19th, 2012.

Good. MGM will kick themselves later once they gain so much profits off this film that they should've started this sooner.

So it has been greenlit so what's next, the end of the world?

This film will pull MGM out of its financial problems, just like it did with New Line back then.

Wish he wouldn't stick that thumb up like that , who know's where it's been to get this movie off the ground ...

Good news if it really happens

Hope they don't run into any problems with FAG (Film Actors Guild) also. I'm pretty sure Ian Mckellan is in charge of them now. I've heard people refer to him as "The King of FAG". Or maybe it was Queen.

When the whole studio burns down (again) ...

Nope. Gotta remain positive about this.

Hell, even the citizens of Pompeii go, " You know, once, I could see it. But twice ? "

Is it even safe to say anything is "Lit" around The Hobbit (much less "GreenLIT") ?

Last time, it was because of a casually left matchbook and some gasoline.
