"The Social Network" Tops Box Office With Only $23 Million

"The Social Network" Tops Box Office With Only $23 MillionSubmit Comment
David Fincher's "The Social Network" grossed $23 million at the domestic box office this weekend. The movie took first place, but ended up in the lower end of projections. But since it was developed for only $50 million, "The Social Network" should easily make its money back.

"It's playing very broadly, and this is a terrific start," said Sony. "This is a movie you can't walk down the street without hearing people talking about it, and the film should permeate in the public consciousness for weeks to come for young and old alike."

The other two wide releases performed even worse. "Case 39" settled for seventh place with only $5.35 million, but it has already grossed $17 million oversees, which will be enough to earn back its $26 million budget. And "Let Me In," a remake of "Let the Right One In," took eighth place with $5.3 million on a $20 million budget.

Meanwhile, the weekend's limited release "Hatchet 2" only grossed $62,000. The worst part is that the film earned only $912 per theater, one of the poorest premieres of the year.

It grossed nearly half of what it took to make the film. In the opening weekend. And it's about, what ? 6 months away from DVD, Netflix, Blockbuster (if that still exists) and Blu Ray release ? That's pretty damn impressive, given how sh*tFORSHINOLA this f*cking year has been with movies. I mean, the two top movies this year came from guys you expect to do well : David Fincher and Christopher Nolan. The rest of it ? Well, you had to separate the sh*t from the flowers.

@CD_Smith0

Elias Koteas ? Yeah, he's one f*cking good character actor. He was also in Skinwalkers.

The only movie I didn't like him in was Almost An Angel, with Paul Hogan. Not because he was playing Christopher Reeves without the fame, looks or charisma. It was because it was a Paul Hogan vehicle and stunk up the place like Tina Turner's maxipad in a Nashville bus station bathroom toilet.

Oh, my voodoo doctor ? He turned it down. He said it looked like a shriveled up Don Knotts and said he had too many "Mr. Limpet" heads in his collection ...

*sigh*

@Ranger

Yep.

Willis as the bad guy. Gary as his Tatu, looking for 'da plane, da plane' ... Gary Busey as the 'd*ck 'Tater from Gator' ... or as Mr. Joshua from Lethal Weapon ... Danny Glover's character with 30 days till Re-Re-Re-Re-Re-Re-Re-Retirement ... Mad, Mad Mel as the " Brutus Maximus " wildcard character, with mistress/wife/girlfriend in tow with a steel chain and collar ... Chuck Norris as " Braddock McQuade : Baddass " ... Jim Brown as " Jim Brown " and of course, Carl Weathers and Jesse 'The Body' Ventura as the Corsican Twins, 'born from the same mother, but two completely crazy motherf*ckers!!!!'

Yeah, my tickets awaiting ...

Don't forget Elias Koteas in look Who's Talking too , one of the worst films ever made , You know it's bad when Kirstie Alley is not the worst thing in the movie...

Side note, he always reminded me of a Young De Niro abit..

Fantastic movie, and that piece of sh*t Timberlake almost made me not want to even go and see it, thankfully i did because of Fincher&Sorkin! Now i think he pulled it off shockingly well.

The movie will earn back its budget, im sure.

I expected this film to be as popular as the very social network it's about... maybe not!

Only if he wears the Jason hockeymask and carry the hockeystick ... he looked like Scott Ian on Steroids.
