Unions Tell Members Not to Work on "The Hobbit"

Unions Tell Members Not to Work on "The Hobbit"Submit Comment
Even though "The Hobbit" films have yet to be greenlit, they are now facing more problems than MGM's financial woes and lack of a director. Producers of the prequels have refused to sign a deal with local New Zealand performers, causing most major unions (including Screen Actors Guild) to tell their members not to work on the films.

Members are warned not to accept any offers and to immediately report any communications with them directly to the union members. While actors can sign their own deals with the producers, they will then be punished by the unions through suspension, fines and expulsion.

According to a union alert, "The Hobbit" producers have indicated that they intend to make imminent offers to performers and plan to pay residuals "significantly less" than the usual agreements on such New Zealand productions as "Mad Max 4" and "Happy Feet 2."

Shut the f*ck up! If they're gonna pay less money, then those members can just not accept the job. f*ckin union *ssholes who don't do sh*t and now that they are for this instance, it's just cop out bullsh*t.

Are you kidding me! Mad Max 4 and Happy Feet 2 are Australian Productions. That statement is like saying that America and Canada are the same country!

I f*cking hate selfish wannabe leftie tinpot unions that ruin everything for everyone else...FOR A PRICE of course. They will capitize on workers fears for the silver then cause disruption to other working people and not give a second thought. My bins don't get emptied? my tough sh*t.No teachers, kids suffer etc.Everyone knows what the job entails before they sign on,you don't like it ..get another job.

If an actor or actress sign a contract, knowing what are signing on, then why the f*ck should they be punished for that? Unions don't do sh*t, except being major *ssholes and get paid for that.

Lol, f*ck that sh*t.

If I was a SAG actor, It'd be so worth getting kicked out of their sh*tty union to work in The Hobbit.

Fine, so just hire people who don't work for the Union. It's all a racket anyway.

Well, when this lastest snafu and kerfuffle gets dis-discombobulated, WP can run the news with the headline "Hobbit Hardly Hobbled, hollers Half-Ton Hack".

Just give up setting up the hobbit.

We already know this is never gonna happen.
Ian McKellen will end up departing and the project will suffer massive fallout.
Oh, Pete. Your (fair?) struggle with TimeWarner just left you in dead gridlock.

Isn't the point of unions to help their members when their members want help? It seems to me that they're more like fascist organisations who order their members and their members' employers around! Let's change a few words from the 2nd paragraph:

CITIZENS are warned not to ASSOCIATE WITH DISSIDENTS and to immediately report any communications with them directly to the GOVERNMENT AGENTS. While CITIZENS can JOIN THE DISSIDENTS, they will then be punished by the GOVERNMENT through PRISON SENTENCES, fines and EXECUTION.

Oh no, I signed a contract and I got kicked from the union, I'm so saddened...

..oh wait, NO I'M NOT!!!

If Ian McKellen walks away from this movie, I'm done. Jackson should have started on this movie right after the LOTR trilogy was complete.

They are going to make millions off of this movie and it's only fair that the people working on it get to make more than usual as well. They are trying to cut costs massively by doing it non-union.
