Stephen Fry is Sherlock's Brother in "Sherlock Holmes 2"

Posted: September 25th, 2010 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Stephen Fry is SherlockSubmit Comment
Stephen Fry (V for Vendetta) revealed on BBC radio show that he will play the role of Mycroft in the upcoming "Sherlock Holmes" sequel, joining Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law and the recently-announced Noomi Rapace.

Mycroft is Sherlock Holmes' older brother (by seven years). Possessing deductive powers exceeding even Sherlock's, Mycroft is nonetheless incapable of performing similar detective work as he is unwilling to put in the physical effort necessary to bring cases to their conclusions.

"I'm playing Mycroft in the sequel to the 'Sherlock Holmes' film Guy Ritchie directed with Robert Downey Jr," Fry said. "And that sort of part is fun, but just once in a while to play a genuine all round sort of lead figure with complexity and tragedy and wit and all the sort of things that Oscar [Wilde] had was a once in a life-time thrill."

Warner Bros has scheduled "Sherlock Holmes 2" to hit theaters on December 16th, 2011.

Thought they were talking about Futurama for a minute.

I could see Dr Zoidberg as Dr Moriarty

The resemblance between RDJ and Fry is striking… Oh, wait, it's not. Not at all.

As much as I trust Mr. Fry as a comedian (anyone who has any doubt should look at Blackadder IV or Absolute Power), I don't think that he is doing this for sh*ts and giggles.

Seven years ? Try over a decade! Max Fischer (Finally! Another Maximillian here!) has a keen eye to point out that resembleance is not there.

Mr. Fry would make for a better Moriarty than Mycroft.

It's Sherlock Holmes older gay brother then ..

max- your right he's good in all the Blackadders (well 2,3,4)

Stephen Fry is 8 years older than RDJ. I think he's a good choice as Mycroft. Can't wait for the sequel.

They may not look alike but neither do Sherlock (Benedict c*mberbatch) & Mycroft (Mark Gatiss) in the TV series on the BBC.

Brothers do not always resemble one another. I could state a number of well known instances where one brother looks nothing like the other, but why bother? It is common knowledge that genetics are not always as linear a phenomenon as one might expect. Never mind the issue of nature versus nurture, which can cause brothers to diverge in physical resemblance.

I just hope that Ritchie, the original writers and Zimmer return. No Jablonsky and Kurt Wimmer on the credits, please.

And I'm not sure I want another actor stealing RDJ's screen time either. Downey carried the Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes. He made both those films. They were perfect for his narcissistic charm and wit. I don't relish the thought of another actor competing with him, and because of this announcement, I wonder if Sherlock Holmes 2 will provide nearly the uncanny rollicking flair of the first film.

RDJ just rocks, and he deserves the spotlight.

P.S. I just loved the scene in the first film where he mentally dissects Watson's fiance right before dinner. That and the pit fight scenes. Just excellent.
