"Shawshank Redemption" Made Tim Robbins a Hero Among PrisonersSubmit Comment
Tim Robbins told WENN of his unique experience being part of the Actor's Gang rehabilitation project that aims to help convicts in California develop stage skills while serving their sentence.

When he meets criminals in jail, he is treated as a hero due to his role in "The Shawshank Redemption," which has gained him a mass following among inmates behind bars. Robbins said that the movie is an inspiration for real-life prisoners, with many insisting that it has made them turn their back on a life of crime.

"People say it's turned their life around," the actor explained. "It's allowed them a vocabulary that made it easier to avoid violence as an option. Some tell me that for the first time they were able to talk to their children on visits. They found emotions inside them that they were able to express more freely."

His next role ? As Mother Theresa.

Hell, Ben Kingsley played Ghandi. You don't hear alot about Ben walking into a city in India and people praising him for turning their piss-poor lives around.
