"Goodfellas" TV Series in the Works

"Goodfellas" TV Series in the WorksSubmit Comment
Deadline is reporting that "Goodfellas" writer Nicholas Pileggi is working on a TV series based on the original film. Warner Bros, which distributed "Goodfellas," is in lead position to pick up the series.

Meanwhile, HBO has already renewed Martin Scorsese's "Boardwalk Empire" for the second season, which means that the director may not be interested in getting involved with the "Goodfellas" TV series. Stay tuned.

"Goodfellas" is based on a true story of Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) and his two unstable friends Jimmy (Robert De Niro) and Tommy (Joe Pesci) who gradually climb the ladder from petty crime to violent murders.

Meanwhile GQ magazine spoke to the cast and crew of "Goodfellas," which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Apparently Pesci's "You think I'm funny?" line came from Pesci's own experience working at a restaurant when he told some guy that he's funny. The line was not in the script. And Scorsese revealed that he considered Tom Cruise and Madonna for the roles of Henry Hill and his wife.

'Scorsese revealed that he considered Tom Cruise ...for the roles of Henry Hill...' --- but no scenes called for 'sofa jumping' so dismissed the idea.

I thought Scorsese stopped taking drugs?

Martin gave up on the idea of Tom Cruise and Madonna because he needed the man to be the hard tough gangster not the the butch woman..

Magonna could play both.

Why hasn't the real mafia taken out the cast of jersey shore especially when they give Italians bad names and their not really Italian? Hope they watch the series and get inspired to grow a pair like they used to have.

Apparently Pesci's "You think I'm funny?" line came from Pesci's own experience working at a restaurant when he told some guy that he's funny.

The guy ended up as a nice entrecote.

I wonder if cocaine was good enough back in 90's and he also considered Val Kilmer and Kelly McGillis for the roles of Sam Rothstein and Ginger (with Kilmer playing Ginger)

Why the hell are they doing this? It's because they are doing Boardwalk Empire and the greedy producers of Hollywood want to start a new trend in television that's why.

Tom Cruise as Henry Hill ? Please. You'd be better off with the corpse of Tiny Tim.

How the f*ck do you keep Goodfellas as a series ? Like trailer said, they already had the Sopranos, which went out with a " What the f*ck were they f*cking thinking, those inbreed f*cks ?!? " ending, so having Goodfellas, the Series is a f*cking way of trying to rake over the f*cking coals of Jimmy Gandolfini and Edie Falco, looking for some spark of what could be another hit or miss for HBO, those f*cking f*cks. f*ck, if they have nothing f*cking better to f*cking do, bring back f*cking Deadwood. Now THAT was a f*cking series you f*cking peach-sucking f*cks! I man, f*ck! You f*cking has just as much violence, f*cking foul f*cking language and tits and any show and IT WAS THE f*ckING WILD WEST!!! f*ck!!!!

Nope. Not as many f*cks as in the movie :

The word "f*ck" is used 296 times, for an average of 2.04 f*cks per minute. About half of them are said by Joe Pesci.

After Joe Pesci's mother saw the film, she told her son that the movie was good, then asked him if he had to swear so much.

Al Pacino was offered the role of Jimmy Conway but he turned it down due to fears of typecasting. Ironically, that same year Pacino ended up playing a gangster - Big Boy Caprice in Warren Beatty's d*ck Tracy (1990). He admits he regrets this decision.

Ray Liotta turned down the part of Harvey Dent in Batman (1989) in order to make Goodfellas (1990).

The later life of Henry Hill, after he enters the Witness Protection Program, was also adapted, more humorously, into My Blue Heaven (1990/I) the same year. Appropriately, that film was written by Nora Ephron, who is Nicholas Pileggi's wife.

According to Ray Liotta on the special edition DVD of this film, Sean Penn was also considered as Henry Hill.

considering his Mystic River performance alone... Penn would have been fab. in it (as he is in anything).
