Guillermo Del Toro Turned Down "Superman" Reboot

Posted: September 19th, 2010 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Guillermo Del Toro Turned Down "Superman" RebootSubmit Comment
Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth) was on board to direct "The Hobbit" films, but recently quit to work on "At the Mountains of Madness" with James Cameron, a project that del Toro has been planning for a while.

Part of the reason del Toro exited "The Hobbit" was because Cameron convinced the director to work on his own passion projects and not be a "director for hire." But as soon as del Toro quit, Warner Bros immediately offered him the chance to direct the "Superman" reboot, which Christopher Nolan is overseeing.

Del Toro obviously turned down the job, leaving many speculating whether Jonathan Nolan or David Goyer could end up helming the reboot.

Question: Would you like to see a del Toro version of "Superman"?

Tel Toro needs to cut the umbilical cord with James Cameron

I would prefer to see him do it over Jonah or Goyer. Especially Goyer...

like to see him return to the Blade series again ..

Goyer shouldn't be directing anything, ever. He's a good writer, but he needs a good director to shape his creativity into something good instead of just watchable. His free reign on Blade 3 killed the franchise. The movie was watchable, just not good, and no where near the level of either of it's predecessors.

The only way I want to see Superman is dying cold and alone in a pile of his own excrement... so I guess the question they're asking is no. No I would not.

With all the fairies, supernatural monsters and CGI visuals ?

Weren't we already abused by Superman : The Quest for Peace ?

What a loser!!!!! But of course it wouldnīt fit on him. Even we had see some backworks from Del Toro, this is not the type of project for him. He make the perfect choice by rejecting this project. Superman can be a dark film like Nolanīs version, but too much dark by Del Toro, it couldnīt be an action film. It would like Hellboy III or something else, he had doing before. Great choice Del Toro, and move on.

I'd like to see Del Toro do anything, doesn't matter if it's an adaption or original material. He's a fantastic talent and whenever he comes out with a movie it's usually one of the best out at the time. I think he'd kill it on Superman or anything other superhero.

Why reboot something that doesn't need rebooted.... Micheal Bay has ruined people ideas of what an action movie needs.
