Quentin Tarantino Accused of Cheating at Venice Film Festival

Quentin Tarantino Accused of Cheating at Venice Film FestivalSubmit Comment
The Italian press is very unhappy with how the Venice Film Festival's biggest prizes were handed out. Jury president Quentin Tarantino seemingly awarded these prizes mostly to close personal friends.

Sofia Coppola, Tarantino's former girlfriend, won the festival's main prize, the Golden Lion, for her drama "Somewhere." Additionally, long-time Tarantino friend Alex de la Iglesia won two prizes, including the Silver Lion for best director, for his film "Balada Triste de Trompeta (A Sad Trumpet Ballad)." And Tarantino's mentor Monte Hellman won a special career prize created by the jury.

"The presidency of Quentin Tarantino runs the risk of turning into the most obvious conflict of interest possible if you remember that 'Somewhere' and [Hellman's] 'Road to Nowhere' were charming and interesting in their own ways, but nothing more than that," wrote Paolo Mereghetti, chief film critic for Correre della Sera, Italy's largest newspaper.

Not too long ago, Tarantino made a statement about favoritism. And he's all for it. "I remember talking to him [Hellman] in 1992 at the Sundance Film Festival, when I was there with my film 'Reservoir Dogs'," he said. "I actually had a friend on the jury and he told me that a friend on the jury is your worst enemy as they would be too embarrassed to give you a prize. I wasn't going to let anything like that effect me."

Tarantino denies all charges.

Everyone knows everyone there
Why is this a big deal?
Have you taken into account how Tarantino knows these people?
His friend won 2 awards, do you think they're friends because of their mutual longing for cake? or because Tarantino befriended someone with talent
And his mentor won an award? Should someone that passed on his knowledge of the trade to a man who made great movies to a degree where he was put in charge of a council of people who judge other movies, not be recognised?

As for Sofia Coppola... she's a f*cking Coppola

What a jack ass. He's suppose to give awards to whoever gives him some head.

Tarantino? Favoritism? Didn't we figure this out when he put nonactor/no talent/BFF Eli Roth in a major supporting role in his last film. Hell, I'm surprised he didn't give out any awards to f*ckin' Machete (which was also at the festival I believe)

What the f*ck is wrong with those faggy italian guys? We're talking about Quentin here, just leave him the f*ck alone, he gaved some awards and Coppola probably gave him a bj for old times sake, I think it's fare.
