Carey Mulligan on "My Fair Lady" RemakePosted: September 12th, 2010 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
About a year ago, producer Duncan Kenworthy (Notting Hill) revealed that Keira Knightley will be re-teaming with the "Pride and Prejudice" director Joe Wright for a remake of "My Fair Lady." Then came word that Knightley was out and Carey Mulligan (An Education) has been brought in to star as Eliza Doolittle.
Now, during the Toronto Film Festival, we had the chance to speak to Mulligan and asked for an update. "It's not happening this year," she replied. "I've definitely spoken about it, and I would love to do it if it happens, but it's just not happening right now."
She added: "I read the script and the script is incredible. Emma Thompson wrote it. It's telling the story again, in another way and not trying to sort of copy anything and not trying to take away anything from that version of it. It's just telling it in a new era to a new generation of people."
Mulligan went on to say that Wright is not directing and that it will instead by helmed by John Madden (Shakespeare in Love). And regarding her singing abilities, she said: "I can hold a tune, but not amazingly."

probably because a lady usually have a pair of breasts, something that Knightley lacks.

Why would you remake My Fair Lady, even if they are saying it's for new generation , just re release the original again.
Can't you just leave some films alone for f*ck sake
This girl is no Audrey Hepburn BTW

@trailer- could'nt agree with you more, eventhough I hate "My Fair Lady" and Audrey Hepburn with a passion..and that's because of two reasons.
1- Audrey doing that sh*tty c*ckney accent that almost every American thinks we sounded like then.
2- Casting Hepbern in it just because she was a name.
Story has it that Julie Andrews was doing the play in the West End and was actually in talks to play it, but some guy come running into office shouting "we got her!, we got her!" when asked "who have you got?" he replied "Audrey Hepburn has agreed to play Eliza Dolittle".
f*cking Hollywood could'nt leave well alone even then!

the world is doomed if they actually do the remake of that film. it is way too much of a classic to be mucked up in a remake
