Guillermo Del Toro Wants Tom Cruise for "At the Mountains of Madness"Submit Comment
We recently reported that Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy) has signed on to direct his passion project, "At the Mountains of Madness," based on a book by HP Lovecraft. The 3D movie is being produced by James Cameron.

Collider has now learned that Universal Pictures wants to cast James McAvoy (Wanted) to play the lead role in the film. Del Toro, on the other hand, wants Tom Cruise. Chris Pine (Star Trek) is also being considered. Some believe that Cruise and Del Toro became friends after their attempt to develop a new "Van Helsing" movie.

"At the Mountains of Madness" is written in first-person perspective by the geologist William Dyer, a professor from Miskatonic University. He writes to disclose closely kept secrets in the hope that he can deter a planned and much publicized scientific expedition to Antarctica. On a previous expedition there, a party of scholars from Miskatonic University, led by Dyer, discovered fantastic and horrific ruins and a dangerous secret beyond a range of mountains taller than the Himalayas.

Good. Tom Cruise is a solid actor, that can keep my attention even in average movie.

Besides, I'd love to see Cruise back in horror genre.

Del Toro directing a Lovecraft story is almost guaranteed to be amazing. I don't really care who stars in this, as long as it actually gets made.

Well, Cruise already did "At The Couch of Madness". Has all the right experience.

If Tom was truly as daring as he was with Eyes Wide Shut, Vanilla Sky or Interview with a Vampire and go against type, I could seriously see it.

But lately, all Tom's been is an action guy.

Needs Tom Cruise because, the "secret" is Scientology is bullsh*t and a "taller" tale than Islam's Koran.
