Could Ryan Reynolds Be Replaced in "Deadpool"?

Could Ryan Reynolds Be Replaced in "Deadpool"?Submit Comment
TotalFilm caught up with Ryan Reynolds two weeks after Comic-Con to ask about the rumored "Deadpool" movie, and how it will be connected to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

"The two movies have absolutely no connection at all, that's how," he said. This news means that 20th Century Fox could replace Reynolds if the actor decides not to reprise his role. And that's exactly what's being rumored now. Even though he is signing on for many non-superhero movies, Warner Bros apparently wants Reynolds to pass on "Deadpool" to focus on "Green Lantern 2."

At this point Fox is in talks with Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) to direct "Deadpool," but the helmer has a very busy schedule and has only a small window next year to make this happen. Meanwhile, Reynolds has about six projects in pre-production, making it difficult for him to be available at the same time as Rodriguez.

For now, Reynolds is happy to announce that the script for "Deadpool" has everything that will make fans happy. "The fourth wall is broken many times in the movie," he said. "I can't emphasize enough how closely the tone of the comic is being followed. But its a nasty piece of work and that's what's important."

Reynolds continued: "The script is going to be a little harder than the comic. If you were going to assign a rating, the comics would be PG-13, the script right now is walking a tightrope between that and an R-rating."

Please no. He is the only person alive who can portray Deadpool perfectly.

Sounds great. Reynolds is the perfect actor for the role, but there are other good choices as well.
I didn't mind the way he was used in Wolverine Origins. They needed to traumatize the hell out of Wade Wilson and drive him insane, and they achieved that. I don't care if they go with the comic origin or the Fox origin really, but I prefer the FOX take because it means he'll be able to teleport, and there's a great opportunity for Deadpool to break the 4th wall and poke a little fun at Wolverine Origins.

I agree with Bigcheese. That it Reynolds' role. I'm hoping he still gets to do it.

Bigcheese was correct in saying 'alive'... because Gary Coleman could have nailed this... but that murderous bitch Shannon Price took our little treasure away from us all!

If Fox REAAAAALLLLLLY f*cks with this :

a. Andrew " Dice " Clay as Deadpool and
b. Eddie Griffin as Blind Al

Okay. Sorry.

I read the FOX leaked news from their marketing department.

Reynolds all the way, f*ck you Fox. Give the Green Lantern some time to chill, your gonna rush that series and it's just gonna be full of sh*t sequals. Let Ryan do Deadpool and Scarlett, the lucky bastard, then let him come back to GL in a few years.

WP - You forgot the part where Ryan says: "Deadpool is not a superhero movie, its a deconstruction of superhero movies so to come off Green Lantern and have the opportunity to do a movie like Deadpool is great in every way possible" - so yes Ryan is still very much involved.

He admitted in the interview that after GL he took some time to rest because GL and Buried were involed a lot of work he's taking a time to be with Scarlett which is understandable. But from what he said he is still involved in the Deadpool movie

Umm... where did any of you get that Ryan Reynolds could be replaced from this article? Sure it didn't help that whoever wrote it slipped some of the interview out... but seriously, the guy has been wanting to make this movie since before he did Blade Trinity. He won't drop out now that it is finally getting close to being made.

As for Warner Bros? What about them? They can't tell him what to do, he doesn't have a "golden handcuffs" contract with them. And at the end of the day, he signed a contract with Fox before he signed a contract with Warner Bros. That's all there is to it.

Green Lantern is gonna be lame anyway. Hal Jordan is a cardboard cut out, cliche' superhero and the GL mythos is corny as hell. WB are planning a trilogy? Heh, misplaced confidence. Green Lantern is in no way a guaranteed success.

Reynolds is a huge Deadpool fan I will lose all respect for him if he drops out of this just to make more money on Green Lantern, besides the guy was born to play Wade, he was the only reason I even saw Wolverine.
