JJ Abrams Working on Alcatraz Prison TV SeriesPosted: September 1st, 2010 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
  Deadline is reporting that JJ Abrams (Star Trek) and "Lost" executive producer Elizabeth Sarnoff are shopping a script to the networks for a new TV series revolving around the Alcatraz prison. The script is written by Sarnoff.
As with all Abrams' projects, this one is also shrouded in secrecy, but is about the San Francisco Bay island that once house some of the country's most notorious criminals, including Al Capone.
Abrams' Bad Robot production company is currently working on two series, the upcoming NBC spy drama "Undercovers" and Fox's "Fringe," which had a minor character named Elizabeth Sarnoff on the show's first season.

OK... my psychic abilities are at their peak. TOO many coinky-dinks lately. Just watching 'Escape from Alcatraz' only last night (great movie if you haven't seen it), and thought... man, they really, REALLY need to do something with that piece of land.
And ta-da... here we go! That or build condos!

@Ranger - I recently saw Murder In the First 1995. Another great story of Alcatraz set around 1930s as it showed the horrors of inflicting the punishment of solitary confinement to break a man's soul. I would imagine any series of about Alcatraz would have to include this dark chapter of the prison's history as it resulted in the shut down of these inhumane dungeons.
It would be interesting to see what Abrams brings to Alcatraz since Prison Break was a great series with strong characters, plot drivers (to bring the story outside the prison walls on the lamb), and showed what life in maximum state penn could be like. Alcatraz on the otherhand will be a gritty period piece.

Something supernatural going on. A mixture of Lost and Prison Break, this will most likely have a few good episodes that pull us in and make us go "whhaa the fuuuu" and then they'll start adding in romances to make it more "interesting" when all we really want is t&a and a cameo from Sean Connery.

@Mr. B - Murder in the First is a must-see.
Slater carried his own, and for the first time saw him as something other than a Jack Nicholson rip-off wannabe.
And Kevin Bacon was amazing. I like him in pretty much anything (even if the movie sucks), but he really showed his strengths in that movie.
What a story.
