How Many Films Have You Watched in Your Life?

How Many Films Have You Watched in Your Life?Submit Comment
Gwilym Hughes, a movie enthusiast who held a Guinness World Record for the number of films he had watched, has died at the age of 65.

Hughes used to watch up to 14 films per week (2 per day) and kept a detailed record of each one he had seen. Guinness reports that he sat through more than 28,000 movies in his lifetime, with his favorites being "Lawrence of Arabia," "The Dambusters" and "The Sundowners."

Hughes claimed that he usually watched movies between 9pm and 12am and it never interfered with his life.

Question: How many movies do you watch per week and how do you keep track of what you watched?

1125 movies total .. on a good week I could watch 30-40 movies, on a bad one (bad for movies good for TV series or video games or whatever) I could watch none

well Ted maybe this guy wasn't using Netflix at all and I know that I like to keep a running count of the films I see and its easier when you have it doc*mented to see the count. And I know that in the past year and a half i've seen exactly 588 films on DVD or in theatres
Crossdrill writes:

WOW, i have no idea. but i would guess close to 5000 maybe.

how many per week, it depends. but i've watched about 20+ in a week.

I operate a cinema up here in the frozen tundra that is, Canada.

I sit through every new movie we get every single weekend.

I've seen every single new film that has come out since 2001 based solely on my business... So I never counted.. but thats gotta be a few thousand.

My father left me the theater when he passed away and left my brothers and I a giant collection of classic reel... I've sat through hundreds, possibly thousands of the old silver goodies...

As far as everything else... Non weekends, id say I watch at least 1 to 3 movies a day... new or old...

So i couldn't even tell you...

I can tell you... 28000 doesnt seem like that much really... considering that there are at least 500 or more studio films every single year.. just in north america.... add the amount of foreign films you can sit through... you could very easily do what he did without it interfering with much in less than a decade probably...

f*ck this guy.. Big fat phony.

@Triggax

That is cool man. Having your own cinema! Can you buy reels for any movie? I've always wanted to watch Fight Club in the cinemas.

triggax writes:

Srudios will sell you reels.. Theyre extremely expensive though. Fight club came out about 2 years before the theater was passed along...

Though i did see it in theater.

The reel for Fight Club would be up in the thousands of dollars... Any one of the actual work prints from warner bros would be a lot of dough. When new films are released theyre substantially cheaper to buy prints for. Once theyre out of the theaters the only way to get your hands on them is through another theater that holds a copy, unless theyre under trade agreements with NATO, The theatre owners organization, in which they agree to front the copy of the film with a promise of it being returned to the studio after the film is watched... Which most of the bigger theaters do... everybody makes and saves more money this way...

For me, i just buy every movie that comes out every week through NATO.

There are certain films that you aren't allowed to buy at all, only trade through NATO.
Inception, or most summer blockbusters are like that.

Its fun stuff though.. and yes the mezzanine is all smoking mother f*cker.

stupid question
with new movies do studios send them to theatres then you return them once you dont screen them anymore or do you just buy and keep them

I honestly couldn't count how many i've watched. Counting the 1,000 i own, ones i've downloaded and lent from friends, seen in theatres and watched on T.V. Maybe 10,000. I try to watch as many films as i can in a week but inbetween work and having to socialize it can get bothersome.

I have watched over 1 million films in my life and I can prove it. Every time I watch a film I flick a booger at my wall next to my TV. It is called my "Film Booger Wall of Fame," and I can honestly tell you on that wall there are
1 million boogers on a green wall that was once yellow.
But in all honestly I have watched about 900,000 films. Give or take a few repeats...
Rio14 writes:

Q: And out of 28,000 films, what was is favorite?

A: "Transmorphers"
(The generic version of Transformers)

SaulSilver writes:

Too many to count. I don't know how people could possibly have the patience to keep track of every f*cking movie they've ever seen. I don't have much of a life, but even I think that's pathetic.
My answer - A lot.

Well... I guess it is the film buffs dream... The unfortunate thing about it is.. Im not.... a film buff in the traditional sense of the word... I LOVE MOVIES... COME ON BOYS LETS SAY IT TOGETHER... I LOVE MOVIES AND I LOVE MAKING MOVIES AND WE DO IT FOR THE LOVE OF THEATER AND ESCAPE.

We dont make love in the afternoon. On the stairs... In the restroom...

I just want all of you to know.

I DO NOT HAVE A 3D PROJECTOR AND OTHER THAN AVATAR I HAVE NOT SEEN A SINGLE MOVIE IN 3D.

f*ck 3d. God bless classic cinema and f*ck Michael Bay.

If anyones interested... Box Office magazine did a full 3 page spread on my cinema in their december 2009 magazine.

Its an article about cinemas that attempt to keep the silver screen alive by playing old reels. Its a good read. Phil Contrino is the author of the article... If anyone wants to read it just let me know and give me your email and ill send you an online code for the magazine..
.
Reason they picked us is because.... Every 3rd weekend of the month we ONLY play the classis... Lean... Landau.... Demme..... Lumet...... and even earlier.. so.... if you want to read it... which... im sure you dont... just let me know...

But yeah... im a movie lover.... and it really is a dreaaaaaam job.

Going by my Blockbuster account, at the age of 27 that I am right now I have rented 1,100 movies on my current account, my previous account I believe has a total of 600. Thats not including what my history is on netflix, what i've seen as a child and all that sh*t. I won't be suprised if people that used to work at Blockbuster surpass him when we turn 65 or whatever.
