Tom Hiddleston on Loki's Fighting Style and "Thor" Ending

Posted: August 26th, 2010 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Tom Hiddleston on LokiSubmit Comment
MTV News caught up with Tom Hiddleston, who revealed a bit about his role of Loki in the upcoming "Thor" movie, stating that his style is more "balletic" than powerful.

"I tried to find a physicality for Loki that was very different from Chris [Hemsworth] as Thor," said Hiddleston. "He's such a big guy and he does so much work on his body, and it was brute strength and a really raw masculinity that would wield this hammer with an enormous power."

He continued: "If he was the rock, I wanted to be like the wind, dancing around and you could never pin me down, I worked with the stunt guys on this almost balletic fighting style. You'd throw a punch at Loki but he's ten steps ahead of you and he wouldn't be there."

Hiddleston added that the movie will end with a brawl between Thor and Loki. "There's a huge fight at the end ó that's not giving too much away to say that it comes to a head. We rehearsed it a lot [and] Ken [Branagh] was really happy. After that day of shooting, he said we definitely have the 'Bourne Ultimatum' version of the two boys from Asgard."

The fight was so intense that Hiddleston ended up getting a bloody nose after Hemsworth accidentally elbowed him in the face.

so its basically the final fight from the chronicles of ridd*ck?

The natural assumption is that no one could ever defeat the Mighty Thor since he is so f*cking huge, powerful and could easily rip Loki's head off and shove it up his ass. However Loki's ballet style, as gay as it sounds, could work.

Recall Rob Roy / Liam Neeson battle against Archibald Cunningham / Tim Roth. In this epic duel Rob the larger man welded a heavy sabre using his pure brute strength which unfortunately tired himself out too quickly. While Archibald used a lighter sword and the agility of fencing to dominate and intimidate his opponent for practically the entire fight.

Its not Bourne Ultimatum by any means. But Rob Roy is probably one of the best choreographed swordfights in the history of film which Branagh would know well. Those debatable Power Ranger costumes are probably lightweight to allow the actors free range of motion.

As a warm up, I'm hoping to see Thor bend Loki's long horn helmet into a pretzel shape.

Not even reading this.

Still like to be surprised (if even a little bit) if I'm paying to see a flick.

Sounds gay, but at least he's smart about his roles. Gay, but interesting

@Mr.Blonde

But if you remember, Neeson shoved a blade into Roths throat

cc-sad but true. my faith lies solely in the trailer for the cap film.
Mr. Blonde writes:

@The Skippy Spartan - the throat wound Roth suffered was from an earlier scene when Neeson (with both hands tied) quickly wrapped the rope around Roth's neck before jumping over a bridge. Roth would have been hung/suffocated if his soldiers didn't cut the rope thus freeing Rob Roy. Best move to escape his captors and wound his enemy.

Sorry, donít remember Neeson sticking Roth in the throat. Rather the final duel had Rob practically cut him in half by delivering a massive arcing sword stroke. Perhaps you are thinking of Russell Crowe shoving a dagger into Joaquin Phoenix's throat in Gladiator. Point of my original post was gay ballet moves by Hiddleston might work using Rob Roy precedent.
