Jeremy Renner Joins Tom Cruise in "Mission: Impossible 4"

Jeremy Renner Joins Tom Cruise in "Mission: Impossible 4"Submit Comment
It was previously reported that Paramount Pictures was waiting to see how Tom Cruise's "Knight and Day" performed in theaters before making any decision regarding "Mission: Impossible 4."

"Knight and Day" underperformed and Paramount began changing the "M:I 4" script in order to add a young Hollywood actor to play Ethan Hunt's apprentice. The studio wants the film to succeed and doesn't believe Cruise can make it happen alone anymore. Plus, the new actor can take over the franchise if Cruise decides against any more installments.

Now comes word from Deadline that "The Hurt Locker" star Jeremy Renner has been signed for the role. Actors like Tom Hardy (Inception) and Chris Pine (Star Trek) were considered, but were too busy. Even Renner's "Locker" co-star Anthony Mackie was up for the role.

i gota sneak peak at the synopsis of the film.

apparently its about aliens that came here years ago and got dissolved ina volcano and their energys now live in us. lay dormat, untill a science ficiton writer somehow resuurects them threw bull-sh*tting and more bull-sh*tting and then scientology was born, cruise's mission is to make everybody on planet x-beta-jeda (earth) belive that its not true......*cue 3 action scenes* (which will involve john travolta and his husband in their batttle field earth get-up). *end scene will be cruise giving that watery eye expression sayin 'why didnt i just go for salt instead of doin knight and day, plus im a homosexual'

i was surprised too, but ovisouly crusie is desperate to get some cred back!

This will flop, pt 3 was ok. Paramount f*cked ole Criuse up though.
Ranger writes:

@CC - yeah, they did.

Paramount... what a joke. They're done, and continue to do anything they can to further tank Cruise. They 'let him go' because they didn't like the $'s on MI3. Now they say they wanted to see what Knight and Day did. It still flopped, yet they say they're going ahead with MI4?!

f*ck Paramount... you have shoveled so much bullsh*t, you don't know where to put it anymore.
Ranger writes:

They're = They have...

f*ck!

Still I have more faith in Renner as an actor to take over the Mission Impossible franchise than I have for Shia Leboeuf as the future of Indiana Jones. Renner could make this role his own.
Ranger writes:
on August 26th, 2010 at 9:54:50 PM

Yep.

With Paramount re-writing MI4 themselves with an apprentice for Ethan. Guess how long before Cruise is punted from this franchise. I suspect during the very next film. But Tom will still do it because he's lost a lot of his star-power.
Mr. Blonde writes:

@Ranger - it will be half way into the film, Les Grossman is going to fire Ethan c*nt. He will then break out into hip hop song and dance number with Renner as his backup bitch.

Big d*ck Playa...
Ranger writes:

That's a better ending than what I'm sure they'll come up with!
elrei writes:

Renner will be a double agent and he will Kill Ethan Hunt, for the rabbit's foot secrets and then Sam Jackson and Ving Rhames hunt down his ass and kick it with some GunFu moves. There's your f*cking movie Paramount.

loved MI1...hated MI2 and MI3 just ok...seems like they're trying for a james bond type film were they can continually pass the torch..meh
Ranger writes:

Matt Damon kicked that plans ass with the Bourne movies.

Why they still need cruise to moving on? Why Paramount not just reboot everything like Daniel Craig did in James Bond?
DaveThePhotoGuy writes:

good points telur and ranger.

If Paramount have such little faith in Cruise why don't they just drop him and go with a younger guy and say right at begining of movie either Ethan Hunt is dead or retired better option would be dead at least you don't have to have him in the movie.
Rambo writes:

I guess he was the only actor shorter then tom cruise...
Blink_pimp_182 writes:

Renner will become the Sam worthington of 2011 stars in too many movies and we all get sick of him. He's good bot great. I still think cruise is the sh*t. He needs too do just acting not action movies. Magnolia is his best film and he does no action just acting.
Ranger writes:
on August 27th, 2010 at 4:14:11 AM

@Dave - because Paramount is so full of themselves, the bottom line is Cruise still makes them money. There's no love between the two. It seems no one will touch Cruise since his black-listing from Paramount, and some big-wig d*ck at Paramount gets a superiority woody keeping Cruise on a leash.

Only one more example as to why Hollywood is one of the sleaziest businesses on the planet.
Ranger writes:
on August 27th, 2010 at 4:19:16 AM

I meant to add... were I Tom Cruise, I'd just retire, announce it publicly and all. But to him with his ego, and missing the spotlight, suspect he may think that looks like defeat and Paramount wins... in his eyes.
trailertrash writes:
on August 27th, 2010 at 4:33:57 AM

Paramount make me laugh the way they treat Cruise.

Day Of Thunder apart everyone of his movies for them has took $100mil plus in the USA and alot more Worldwide ..

He should tell them to f*ck off on MI4 if they feel he needs a younger star to help the movie make money , let them do it as an Mission Impossible: The Origins and then watch it take about $45mill max.....

Love him or hate him , The guy delivers at the boxoffice alot more times than not !!
Ranger writes:
on August 27th, 2010 at 4:35:23 AM

Yep. He's made them a fortune. Shows just how fickle and disloyal the business is.
trailertrash writes:
on August 27th, 2010 at 4:35:25 AM

Knight and day has still took over $222 mil W/W.

Not to sad is it ....
Ranger writes:
on August 27th, 2010 at 4:39:24 AM

I'll assume the reason he never self-produced more was because one would need a distributor. And if Paramount blacklisted him... no other wanted to cross that line and stick their neck out for Tom. He's always had the $'s to do it. And being his own producer the movie would save $20mil right off the bat with his salary (as he'd take a 'back-end' deal for a bigger cut after the flick was released).

Eastwood has a well-earned, sweet deal with Warner Bros. They'll distribute whatever he makes. Now that's respect!
johnny_boy writes:

He must have had his "hawkeye" on that role.

(crickets chirping)

Though crowd
trailertrash writes:

Still can't see how Jeremy Renner will add that much more to the Boxoffice takings any way. No one rushed out to watch the Hurt Locker did they ...
trailertrash writes:
on August 27th, 2010 at 4:44:19 AM

Spot on Ranger !!!!

The way Warners have worked together with Malpaso and Clint has worked well for years and years and like you say there is Total Respect between both Companies and they know they are good for each other ...

Paramount should have done the same thing...
ACTIONFIGURE writes:

I like Renner and Brad Bird rules but MI:4 isn't really needed if only to give Tom Cruise a shot at a comeback...which he will eventally...he has before and he'll do it again.

Got this e-mail from a guy who works at Paramount...

MI4 Plot... KEEP UNDER WRAPS

It's been 4 years and things have calmed down since Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) has disappeared. The agency has moved on trying to find him and instead has hired Maximillius Smith (Jeremy Renner) to take over his position...but when a diabolical jr. high school music teacher (Harrison Ford) gets his hands on the ultimate doomsday device, it'll be up to Hunt to come out of hiding and stop him at all costs...

Catch cameos from Michael Richards and Erik von Detten!
