Idris Elba is Alex Cross in "Kiss the Girls" Prequel

Idris Elba is Alex Cross in "Kiss the Girls" PrequelSubmit Comment
Back in December, we reported that that James Patterson (Kiss the Girls, Along Came a Spider) was working to reboot his Alex Cross franchise with an origin story focusing on the detective in the early years of his career.

Deadline is now reporting that Idris Elba (American Gangster, Losers) has signed on to play Cross, which was previously played by Morgan Freeman. Kerry Williamson wrote the script for director David Twohy (Chronicle of Riddick).

In the new movie, Cross tracks a serial rapist who may have murdered his pregnant wife years before. Production will begin in 2011, likely in the spring.

Really WP? American Gangster? Can't put "The Wire" where he starred for 3 seasons over a movie that he was barely even in?

Meh Cross wasn't that much of a brilliant novel though, it was Good for a backstory but movie wise, i reckon it will fail

In retrospect, Idris Elba would have made an awesome Rhodey in the Iron Man flix

Idris is a good actor and one of the few right now that has a great future, unless he keeps making sh*tty films like "The Losers" and possibly the upcoming "Takers" (the trailer looks average, nothing new or impressive).

@ eViL.kEv2

WOW never though of that one friend, interesting and good on. He would have been better than the previous 2.

Idris Elba is Alex Cross ... but has he ever driven Miss Daisy, lived in Shawshank, been the President of the United States when everyone had to live underground, ran a loom company and trained assassins or showed Mr. Simms that if he doesn't change his ways, he won't graduate high school and locked chains on all the fire exits ?

... Didn't think so.

Idris WAS in a cool BBC tv show that interpreted vampires in a different way called Ultraviolet. It's available to watch on Hulu.

I think we need more films with Idris Elba and Tom Hardy. Great British actors, both of them (pardon the pun)!

speaking of movies with kiss in the title. I wish they would make a sequel to : The long kiss goodnight. That was the best movie Geena Davis ever did.

Did someone at least tell Morgan Freeman?

And did they just decide to go younger so they could put that bathtub love scene from Along Came A Spider (the novel) in a future Cross movie somewhere? Am I remembering that right from the book? Haven't read any of them in years.

STRINGER BELL as a detective? It could work...

@velocityknown

Good point! WP should've just put RocknRolla instead, in order to keep the continuity of movies Idris has done with a major role. He was probably in American Gangster for like a solid 4 minutes.
Anyways, I thought he was also going to play Michael Jordan in a biopic? Wha gwan wit' dat!?
