First the Holocaust Film, Now Pat Tillman Documentary Gets "R" Rating

First the Holocaust Film, Now Pat Tillman Documentary Gets "R" RatingSubmit Comment
The Weinstein Company recently acquired rights to the "The Tillman Story" documentary, about the mysterious death of Pat Tillman, an American hero who chose to leave a multi-million-dollar football contract to join the military.

But the MPAA just gave the film an 'R' rating for "excessive language," which puts it off limits to anyone under 17 years old. "Of course there is excessive language," said producer John Battsek. "This is a film that follows a truly exemplary family torn apart by the death of their loved one."

Director Amir Bar Lev added: "The language in this film is not gratuitous. I think this is how many people would react when faced with the unthinkable. Giving this film an 'R' rating prevents young people from seeing this film; the very people who should be exposed to a great American like Pat Tillman."

Harvey Weinstein launched a campaign to get a less-stringent rating for the documentary, but the MPAA has already considered the appeal and refused to lower the rating. "The Tillman Story" is set to hit theaters on August 20th, in limited release.

This story comes after the MPAA gave a Holocaust documentary an 'R' rating, causing much discussion over whether there should be an age restriction to learn about Holocaust atrocities.

the mpaa is just a fricken advisory council made up of "average" americans who would rather see naked people and violence than hear curse words

Never heard of him. What makes Pat Tillman a hero? because his own soldiers killed him?

I'm sure I'd rather watch naked people and violence rather than this.

this will be some American propaganda to try and get more people to enlist...no credit taken away from the people in the army..but America has a history of glorifying everything....

The MPAA are f*cking moronic, the system we have in Britain is a hell of alot fairer, the BBFC are not affiliated with any Movie Studio they are completly independant and give the film the rating it deserves, yes sometimes they get it wrong too, but those times are out weighed.

The MPAA are a puppet of the major studios as sson as they become independant they will become better.

Would'nt mind seeing this movie sounds interesting.

Pixar should make a Holocaust movie with Woody getting thrown into an oven.

Kids would then learn of ... THE AXIS TERROR!!!

I'd say call it 'Up in Smoke!'... but that's been used already.

Kids as young as seven these days are using profanity. To be honest, I think parents should really only worry about violence and drug content in films. Sexuality to a point may be too mature for a child, but seriously nudity is so minimal in comparison and truly sometimes its looked at as more inappropriate. We live in a strange society ladies and gents.

...and this is a doc*mentary. But no, children are aloud to be exposed to Vampires Suck. Really? A movie that lacks that much intellect should be rated R strictly because it can cause loss ofbrain cells.

We have to protect teenagers from hearing the language they themselves use every day. Or something.
