Gerard Butler in Talks for "Slide" Soccer Comedy

Gerard Butler in Talks for "Slide" Soccer ComedySubmit Comment
LA Times is reporting that Gerard Butler (300) is in talks to star in a soccer comedy called "Slide," which has Gabriele Muccino (Seven Pounds, The Pursuit of Happyness) attached to direct.

The movie, which was originally titled "Confessions of a Little League Coach," now centers on a troubled father (Butler) trying to make up for lost time by coaching his son's team -- but who finds himself in hot water after some of the local mothers take a little too much of a shine to him (and he to them).

"Slide" is written by Robbie Fox (So I Married an Ax Murderer) and is currently in search of financing and a time to shoot it. The original plan was to have the story focus on baseball rather than soccer.

Sounds like something Steve Guttenberg might even pass on ...

@trailer- guess he must have passed on it, to concentrate on the "Three Men and their Hooker"

what a f*cking idiot...instead of making 10 '300' sequels/prequels or whatever he keeps wasting our time since 2007 with those f*cking comedies...

How many soccer movies have destroyed careers? I love the game, I used to play and coach, but for f*cks sake it makes a horrible movie.

jeff-

Escape to victory (victory in the US)with Stallon and Caine, I used to love that as a kid , pretty cheesy now though.

A Good football film was the Dammed United with Michael sheen as brian Clough (great man BTW) , can't think of to many others worth watching.

TT-

I will have to check those out I haven't see them or heard of them til now. The only one I have ever seen that was slightly entertaining was shaolin soccer.

Ladybugs was pretty damn good, is Jonathan Brandy available for a cameo?

Best actor ever in a soccer movie, was Ditka in Kicking and Screaming...

I have to disagree. Jason Statham as 'The Monk' in Mean Machine wins everytime.

This dude seems to stop making sh*tty movies. Compared to Sam Worthington he has so much Charisma, they should just switch careers.

Two enjoyable European Football films, Fifteen Minutes that Shook the World (chronicles 'The Miracle of Istanbul') and One night in Turin.

Jeff -

You have never seen Stallone as the goal keeper in Victory its a rip off of the great escape really.

If you know any English players from the 70's they make up half the cast guys like Bobby Moore and ossie ardiles. Worth watching.

CC- Goal was ok but parts 2 and 3 were pretty crap i thought.

VDODSON- Not seen that , but Rodney Dangerfield can be funny (back to school and little nicky), That Jonathan guy is dead isn't he ...

@trailer- yep Escape and Damned United are great foorball films, probly why they are great is they concentrate on the story rather than the football, whilst The Ladybugs is a great little comedy guilty pleasure of mine, but Dnagerfield makes that movie.

Never seen Goal, remember the adverts for it and just thought it was a pile of sh*t.

Ladybugs - "All I know is, I got alotta balls!"

Mean Machine is a f*cking awesome movie. It was more faithful to the original Longest Yard than the remake was, even though it was about a completely different sport. (and I liked the remake)
