Denzel Washington to Join Vin Diesel in "Hannibal the Conqueror" Biopic?

Denzel Washington to Join Vin Diesel in "Hannibal the Conqueror" Biopic?Submit Comment
In recent days, director Tony Scott (Enemy of the State) has become attached to a number of projects, including John Grisham's "The Associate" and Mark Millar's "Nemesis" comic book. And now, Vin Diesel has revealed that Scott is also attached to direct his "Hannibal the Conqueror" biopic.

"I told you about a meeting with a director in LA, I said it was important and I would explain later.. well the Director I met was Tony Scott," Diesel explained via Facebook. "Well this meeting was exceptional. We talked about Hannibal and the Punic Wars and how by nature the story demanded three movies. The first movie centering around Hamilcar, Father of Hannibal and the Defender of Africa, in the First Punic War."

Diesel continued: "He said he would get our friend Denzel [Washington] to play Hamilcar. Him playing Hamilcar and for Tony to Direct... exciting to say the least."

In the movie, Diesel will star as the Carthaginian general who led an elephant-riding battalion across the Alps to attack Rome in the 3rd Century BC. The plan is to use the original Punic language in the film.

chances are this movie is going to be expensive.
There is no way they will use the punic language, alot of people wont want to read sub titles. and if it is a 3 part series that alot of money that will be on a non eglish speaking film.

Punic Language,

Is that what Lindsey speaks when she has too many Vodka Martini's

the Punic language should go over well with mainstream audiences. mel gibson used languages most people have never heard before in two commercially successful films he directed, but tony scott is no mel gibson

NOOOOO DENZEL!!! DON'T DO IT!!!

Lol, that look on Denzel's face is priceless! They must have snapped this right after Diesel told him about his brilliant Punic language idea.

I read this was happing at leat 9 years ago in a FHM magazine. This would be awsome to see, Hannibal was literally outside Romes walls and had it in his hands, then f*cked up at the last minute. Just the crossing of the Alps will be epic, he also was never caught by the Romans, killed himself before the Romans got to him!

Considering how Vin continues to talk about this film long after people stopped giving a sh*t proves that he has a genuine interest in it. But I honestly doubt that any studio would give him the money for these pictures, even with Tony Scott or Denzel involved.

^Probably Disney, which means they'll want a soft-PG13 rating, complete with wacky side characters like Eddie Griffin or Queen Latifah. Look at how Disney fouled up Prince of Persia. You think they won't take the same, formulaic route with this if they financed it?

HannibalK1ng is right.this *sshole avatar style won't be good.and how the father o hannibal will be black and in 3RD CENTURY B.C?

Hamilcar was a descendent of the founders of a Greek colony called Cyrene. Why would we assume that Africans must be black. The history says that the Saharan desert had acted as a huge barrier. I always imagined the Barcas as more of a greek/egyptian ethnicity. But Tony Scott loves Denzel so there ya go.

I would also love to see Vin put he ego aside and produce this movie or play a supporting role. Hannibal was a brillant tactician and commander. He wasn't some great soldier that won battles by decapitating people and spouting one-liners. However, it'll be interesting to see if he can portray Hannibal for what he really was and not a Hollywood version of it.
