Jack Black Will Pretend a Dead Person is Alive in "Bernie"

Jack Black Will Pretend a Dead Person is Alive in "Bernie"Submit Comment
Jack Black (Shallow Hal) is re-teaming with "School of Rock" director Richard Linklater for the dark comedy "Bernie," co-starring with Shirley MacLaine (Bewitched). Principal photography is scheduled to begin October.

"Bernie" is set in the small town of Carthage, Texas and follows a community leader/mortician Bernie (Black) who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a wealthy but very particular widow (MacLaine). When he kills her, he goes to great lengths to maintain the illusion that she is still alive.

The film is based on the true story of Berhardt "Bernie" Tiede, who was convicted of shooting the 81-year-old woman in 1996 and hiding her body in a freezer for nine months, pretending as though she was still alive. "Weekend at Bernie's" followed a very similar storyline, but was released a full seven years before the crime took place.

Great! 2 hours of Shirley Maclaine playing dead poses being propped up on a stick a la "Bernie Lomax". I hope Jack Black remembers to wash his finger before he eats. Unless he likes aged tartar sauce.

Funny how real life imitates fiction sometimes.

Remaking "weekend at bernies"? 2012 can't come soon enough at this point. Pre-production on the "Tango and Cash" reboot should be kicking off any day now. FML!

Great!! Just when I finally got that gawdawful makeout scene of Jack Black and Cloris Leachman out of my mind along comes this piece.

Take out the dentures cuz Black likes 'em really experienced.

Nah, this is the "re-imagining" of Weekend at Bernie's. Like, you know, that Tim Burton clusterf*ck Planet Of The Apes way back when in those pre-9/11 days of July '01.

Ah, early 2001. The Fast and The Furious was out and kept its use of the word "The". Swordfish f*ckin' RULED. All those '02 movies hadn't been pushed back yet (Big Trouble, Bad Company, Collateral Damage, Windtalkers). Everything was alright.

f*ck you TERRORISTS!!!!!
