Stephen Sommers Will Return for "GI Joe" Sequel

Posted: August 4th, 2010 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Stephen Sommers Will Return for "GI Joe" SequelSubmit Comment
Almost exactly a year ago, "GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra" was released in theaters and ended up only grossing $150 million domestically on a $175 million budget. And even though the film took in another $150 million internationally, it looked like Paramount Pictures was ready to replace director Stephen Sommers (The Mummy, Van Helsing) for the sequel.

Now comes word from The Wrap that the studio and Sommers have worked out a deal, which means that the director will return for "GI Joe 2." Channing Tatum is also expected to reprise his role as Duke.

Earlier this year Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland) were hired to write the new movie. Since then, they have turned in a draft and the studio reportedly loves it.

G.I. Joe 2....great. At least it'll be better than Sex and the City or Twilight.

c*nt-licking acting mash, they are taking a step up from the brown eye rimming acting from the first one then.

Hopefully better writers can save this, but I highly doubt it, crapfest is most likey gonna happen, especially since homo tatum is still in it.

So hopefully they wont oversaturate the screen with sh*tty cgi?

I enjoyed the first one and am looking forward to the sequel. Maybe they can hurry up and kill off Duke though. Send the team into battle with Flint instead.

I'm sure the devil collected a few more souls to make this POS happen. Score another victory for the big red guy. He's by far the hardest working man in Hwood.

@ATM you mean the point that you like to suck c*ck?
shayhiri writes:
on August 4th, 2010 at 5:11:53 PM

Wait, wait...

So this sh*tfest costs 175m., makes 300m. and gets a sequel?

And Prince of Persia, which was infinitely better movie in any way, costs 200m. (supposedly), makes 330m. (could add more) - and DOESN'T GET A SEQUEL? And is even considered and underachiever?!

How f*cked up is that?
rabid writes:
on August 4th, 2010 at 5:52:08 PM

Because regardless of whether or not it was good GIJOE was fun to watch, whereas Prince of Persia was a snoozefest. And there are a lot more GIJOE fans than Prince of Persia fans.
Champ1432 writes:
on August 4th, 2010 at 6:24:55 PM

I agree with Rabid, the movie was pretty good, I think most people are a little too hard on it. Could the CGI have been better? Sure. But in the end, it's a movie based off of a cartoon. A kid's cartoon. Not every movie can be The Dark Knight. It was good as a fun action flick.

The first film was enjoyable; it was neither great or horrible. However, it was important to note that I went in with no expectations. The way big-budget summer action movies are to be taken.

@shay - is "Prince of Persian" the only movie you've seen since "The Care Bears Movie" cam out? It seems like you compare every other movie to it, like it's "Citizen Kane" or "The Godfather". It was a sh*tty movie about Persians that starred an American and a bunch of Brits and it was based on a really lame video game. What's with the undying love for a mediocre (at best) popcorn flick that was shot down by critics as well as the majority of it's target audience?

Sidenote - why do directors think that a British (or occasionally Australian) accent is universal and an acceptable replacement for any regional accent or dialect? "LOTR", "300", "Prince of Persia", "Thor"... the list seems almost infinite
