Denzel Washington in Talks for "Safe House" Spy Thriller

Denzel Washington in Talks for "Safe House" Spy ThrillerSubmit Comment
NY Magazine is reporting that Denzel Washington is in negotiations to star in Universal Pictures' "Safe House," an original spy thriller written by David Guggenheim that sparked a bidding war this past winter.

Set in South America, the new movie follows a young US intelligence agent who must go on the run with a newly arrived prisoner (Washington) after his titular safe house comes under attack. The film is described as a mix between "Collateral" and "Three Days of the Condor."

It's very likely that the role will earn Washington around $20 million, since his talent agency (WME) has promised him high-paying gigs in order to keep him with the company after his agent passed away over the weekend.

@ encore.... If you think aids is a problem in Africa, imagine how worst it gets in the prisons(if any)

If Denzel Washington was a stock on Wall Street, he'd be the safest investment on the market.

If he was a baseball player he'd be batting .900 and would be a shoe-in to win the Home Run Derby every year.

If he was Irish, people would rub him for luck.

If he drank Dos Equis and grew a beard, the World's Most Interesting Man would be looking for another job.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, he's about as much of a guarantee as Hollywood will ever offer. The guy always delivers and still manages never to get caught up in all the bullsh*t. If you love film, you love Denzel.

... Beats a blowjob and a " Sorry to hear your agent died " Hallmark card.

@encoreyourface

South America, not South Africa

" Set in South America, the new movie follows a young US intelligence agent who must go on the run with a newly arrived prisoner (Washington) after his titular safe house comes under attack. The film is described as a mix between "Collateral" and "Three Days of the Condor."

... though when they say it's a 'mix' of something (in this case Collateral and Three Days of the Condor), then expect questionable results.

Think of it cinematically of that kid in chemistry class who combines two formulas together and promises the teacher after, " Oh, no Mr. Robertson. Your eyebrows WILL grow back. "

@encore - they already do... on Lohan's site.

I'll watch anything Denzel is in.

To Mr. Washington... re: your agent's passing, my condolences.

^

It's a spy thriller mixed with "Fled", a remake of " The Defiant Ones ".

At least we don't have to watch Stephen Baldwin jerking off for two hours before credits.

I bet Laurence Fishburne wanted to bitchslap Stevie on set daily ....
