Andrew Garfield is Being Paid $500,000 for "Spider-Man" Reboot

Posted: July 6th, 2010 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Andrew Garfield is Being Paid $500,000 for "Spider-Man" RebootSubmit Comment
It was previously reported that Tobey Maguire would have been paid $50 million in salary and profit shares for signing on to star in "Spider-Man 4" and "Spider-Man 5." Obviously that didn't work out since Sony decided to reboot the franchise.

And even though that meant losing Maguire, it also meant that the new Peter Parker would come cheap. Deadline is reporting that under Andrew Garfield's deal, the actor will be paid $500,000 for the first movie, $1 million for the second one, and $2 million for the third film.

This comes as no surprise, since the 26-year-old actor is still somewhat of an unknown. The big reason why Sony chose him for the role was because of his part in David Fincher's upcoming "Social Network" movie.

"the actor will be paid $500,000 for the first movie, $1 million for the second one, and $2 million for the third film."

wow! They're paying him that low. I thought Marvel didn't have film rights to spiderman

Sucker!

Tsssss
i think the reason they signed him had more to do with the fact that they could pay him scraps, than with his upcomping role in a movie about a homepage

I believe Andrew Garfield would play spider-man for free. He need that role. Damn he paid more than Chris Evans in Captain America

Sony , what a class outfit you are.

Maybe we could all have a whip round and help pay for the sets for you as well !!

Reading this again I wonder, were casting auditions based on how good the actors were or how little they're willing to get paid and Garfield bid the lowest
wonderBOY writes:

so pay the actors sh*t just to put in some useless 3d
Kurskij writes:
on July 6th, 2010 at 8:44:04 AM

Well, that's still a hell lot of money.

The problem is: no wonder they're willing to pay him 500,000$ for the first movie - same happened with Labeouf and Transformers. But the raises are small.

Sony must kidnap his niece or something or they guy will run away after the first movie.
CCBlev writes:

Well looks like he got the short end of the stick. What will they pay whoever they get for MJ? $50,000? Sony you definatly a class A f*ck up!!

Surprised they gave him more than Chris Evans. Evans is quite known at least.

@ johnny boy

I thought the same thing u did...both bout marvel not having movie rights and bout them just picking the lowest paid actor of em all on the list. And we know now that were in for a trifecta of a sh*tfest trilogy. f*ck sony studios....f*ck them with their tent pole movies

AYT BALL writes:

Hope this means they have alot of money left for a hell of a lot of CGI, im talking spiderman, the city, the sky, the bad guys, crowds.........actually no, that would look cartoonish and gay, no offence Rami ;-)
JohnZee writes:

That is such a low ball offer. If this particular franchise does make it to a second and third movie, this kid is going to hate that sh*t out of Sony for holding him to such a low figure for those films.

Tobey was going to get $40 million plus a cut of the take for his next Spiderman movie, and the absolute best this kid can do on his third movie is $2 million?

You know Marvel becoming the guy that doesn't pay sh*t to the people that make their movies is going to end up biting them in the ass. Think about it, whoever you want to work for it isn't the guy with the reputation of paying his employees the least...
encoreyourface writes:

johnny-just maybe. 500,000 isn't a whole lot, if you threw that at even Gary Coleman he'd be all like

"i was better of dead!" and jump out the window.
Ranger writes:

@kursk - it's actually not a lot of $'s (and I don't even mean as compared to Hollywood $'s). This actor will lose a chunk to taxes, management, publicist, and like all actors is unemployed until his next gig.

Unrelated/related - a guy in the US won $64mil. in a lottery. He could either have taken an annuity or a lump sum. He was of the age he wanted the lump sum. After 'appropriate' taxes, his take home pay was $18mil. Still nothing to sneeze at. But tell me the governments (state/federal) isn't a thief.
Ranger writes:

And Marvel - you cheap bastards, and Sony - for messing with a working franchise...

f*ck you both!

Kurskij writes:

@ranger

Yeah, I forgot the taxes are huge in the US.

Income tax is 13% in Russia right now. Too bad the prices are as high as in US...
Kurskij writes:

Unrelated:

Sly is 64 today. Let's congratulate the man who is still willing to break his own neck to make a worthwhile old-school action.
darkraven28 writes:

That will be re-negotiated after the reboot scores 100 mil plus on the first weekend. Guaranteed.

And, seriously, why the hell is a company like Sony f*cking penny-pinching with salaries? If your movie is a success, you get more money for a sequel. That's life for movie stars. Have they forgotten that in the T2 days that Arnold got 15 mil and a f*cking jet? HAVE YOU? I mean, a movie star's salary means nothing to me but Hollywood should be used to this by now.
JohnZee writes:

Darkraven28:

I'm glad your confident this movie is going to do 100 million dollars opening weekend. Counting you and Stan Lee, that makes about two people.

Kurskij- Great Call !!

Happy Birthday Sly

Expendables , can't come out quick enough still 6 weeks to go (5 in the US )!!

JohnZee:

It has been proven that even a crap Spiderman movie can make substantial profits. Case In Point: Spiderman 3, which totalled out at near 900 million in worldwide profits by the end of its theatrical run.

So, while the reboot may not do 100 million in the first weekend, it will still be profitable because it's Spiderman. It's a brand name, and you know full well they are going to market it to death. And ultimately people are not going to care that all the cast has been replaced and they are essentially starting over. Spiderman will be profitable. Will it be good? Who knows? Maybe. Will people care if it's good or not? Likely not. Disbelieve me? See my case in point. Thank you.

october_midnight writes:

Call it chump change if you will, but the way I see it is:

'the actor will be paid $500,000 for the first movie, $1 million for the second one, and $2 million for the third film.'

which basically equals:

'Five times what the total would be if you took the lifetime sum of money made by everyone who's posted in this thread.'
