Meryl Streep is Margaret Thatcher in "Iron Lady" Biopic

Meryl Streep is Margaret Thatcher in "Iron Lady" BiopicSubmit Comment
Meryl Streep is in talks to re-team with her "Mamma Mia!" director Phyllida Lloyd for "The Iron Lady," a biopic of the controversial and long-governing former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher. Jim Broadbent (Hot Fuzz, Harry Potter) is in talks to play Thatcher's husband, Denis.

"Lady" is based on a script by Abi Morgan and tells the story of a woman who smashed through the barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male-dominated world. The story concerns power and the price that is paid for power, and is a surprising and insightful portrait of an extraordinary and complex woman.

If cast, Thatcher would be the highest-profile character played by Streep, who has been nominated for Oscars for portraying such women as whistleblower Karen Silkwood, author Susan Orlean and cooking guru Julia Child.

The new movie will begin shooting at the end of the year.

I thought Queen Latifah or Jada Pinkett is the right actress for Margaret Thatcher

Don't care.

I guess they'll f*cking get James Brolin to play Reagan again.

Living with Streisand all those years, the director won't know if he's really gone senile.

Here's a crazy idea: get a f*cking english actress to play Thatcher. I don't know how good Streep's accent is, but her american will shine through from time to time.

BTW Streep may be the most overrated actress ever. Never liked her, never will and I hope she can choke on her Oscars. If she gets nominated for this as well, I will cause some serious bloodshedding (mostly on myself, but it'll be on her hands)

Yes Yes Yes

More Meryl,

Again I will see her advertised to be on The View, Regis and Kelly, Larry King, E, E True Hollywood Story, Biography, A Lifetime Original "Meryl Streep Growing Up Poor", VH1 Doc*mentary, Eye on America The Comeback Momma.

Did I miss anything

f*ck off! Streep is not overrated, more than deserving, not only has immense talent, but class as well, almost unheard of in Hollyweird. The fact you said her accent will come through just tells me you know sh*t about her as an actress, accents is what she DOES best, no one comes close.

This sounds great on paper, but of course UK press will go nuts that an American is playing such an Iconic British figure, i say f*ck them, and Streep will do an amazing job as always!
