More Details on M. Night Shyamalan's New Film with Bruce Willis

More Details on M. Night ShyamalanSubmit Comment
We recently reported that director M Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, The Village) has been shopping around a script for a new mysterious film that has Bruce Willis, Gwyneth Paltrow and Bradley Cooper attached.

Deadline is now reporting that the movie has Cooper playing a father on a desperate search for his missing child. The plot sounds a bit like "Taken," but the father makes use of supernatural powers to help him with the search. Shyamalan is planning to direct the film.

In addition, the director is also working on a second project, called "Twelve Strangers," for his The Night Chronicles production company. Shyamalan will only produce, which is why he hired "Buried" writer Chris Sparling to pen the script. The thriller involves a jury deliberating a case involving the supernatural.

The first film for his company is "Devil," which is directed by John Dowdle (Quarantine) and will hit theaters on February 11th, 2011.

You know, I really appreciate that Shyamalan loves Hitchc*ck and The Twilight Zone and wants to make stories like those available for audiences now, but please . . . stop f*cking them up!!! So many good ideas, terribly executed, with decent actors delivering some of their blandest performances ever. The pacing is always way too slow for the first 3/4, it's like he comes up with ideas for movies that should only be a half hour long then drags them out as long as he can. "The Happening" could have been amazing (especially given some of creative death scenes) if it was faster, shorter and didn't have terrible performances by the two main stars. Mark Walberg always comes across as hokie and goofy, to up that is unnecessary. Zooey Deschannel is basically a walking carboard cutout that smiles every once in a while. Having her be more stoic and less emotional makes her look like a zombie that's not interested in eating brains anymore. Hopefully, "The Last Airbender" will win him back some credibility and some self-confidence.

call me crazy but i'm hoping this is still unbreakable 2 and cooper's character just hires willis' character from the first one to use his supernatural powers to find his son, lol.

I am glad M is still plugging away and trying to make good original movies. Maybe everything from here on out will be great and we can refer to Lady in the Water and The Happening as his blue period...

(for poop - not his ethnicity)

@eViL.kEv2, I am with you on that. If M. Night did a weekly series of shorts like Tales From The Darkside or Amazing Stories, If given a reduced format to deliver his stories, I bet they would be far better than his films. Then he could work on branching out into films.

@Sofaking,I hope so. I would definitely like to see him get back on track, making good films again.

Although for his "blue" period, you'd have to include The Village in there as well. Though it wasn't the clusterf*ck that Lady in the Water and The Happening were, it was still a very dismal and disappointing film from the standard of his first 3 big hits.

I honestly have to say I'm more more interested in this new film he's developing than "Last Airbender" which looks to be next in the line of kiddie fantasy films in the mold of "Harry Potter and Percy Jackson vs. Eragon and the Golden Compass of Narnia"-type films.

Spoiler Alert: M. Night Shyamalan's movies still suck after The Sixth Sense. The only way for him to come back to form is to do The Sixth Sense 2:High Voltage.
