Marvel Hires Writers for "Dr. Strange" Movie

Marvel Hires Writers for "Dr. Strange" MovieSubmit Comment
While Marvel is considering to introduce some of the lesser-known characters through short films being show in front of "The Avengers" and "Iron Man 3," it looks like one of those characters will be getting his own feature film.

Deadline is reporting that Marvel has hired "Conan" writers Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to pen the script for a "Dr. Strange" movie, which will be the first Marvel flick developed under Disney.

Originated in 1963 by Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, Dr. Strange was a self-centered New York surgeon robbed of his touch after a car accident. After a stint as a wandering derelict, he found his way to a healer in the Himalayas, where he learned to tap into psychic powers to battle evil wizards and other wrongdoers.

The plan is to have the film ready after "The Avengers" hits theaters on May 4th, 2012.

I'm not sure how Disney is going to effect marvel.

Nestor Carbonell would be great. I could also see Nicolas Cage or Hugh Laurie in the role.

Disney is a good thing for Marvel. Marvel has a bad habit of driving themselves into bankruptcy. Now they never have to worry about that again. Plus they're working for a company that already has serious tv and film connections. It's a big win for Marvel.

If you're worried about Disney trying to make things too wholesome, don't. Disney has released some of the most subversive controversial films ever, like the Crying Game, Kids, Pulp Fiction, Dogma, Fahrenheit 9-11.

Hugh Laurie would be fantastic, but just a little too old.
