"Ripley's Believe It or Not" Back OnPosted: December 19th, 2006 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Paramount Pictures has taken "Ripley's Believe It or Not!" off the shelves, dusted it off, and hired a new writer to overhaul the script. Steve Oedekerk will step in to make all the necessary changes for this film to become a reality. Director Tim Burton and the star of the film, Jim Carrey, have both approved Oedekerk for the job, and Carrey will even throw some of his own ideas in.
The film was on schedule before it was postponed months before its fall production start. The reason was that Burton and Carrey were still coming up with ideas that would require a script rewrite, while a China shoot was nearing with a budget skyrocketing past $150 million. Oedekerk will provide the rewrite and will receive a seven-figure fee for the job. His close relationship with Carrey will only help the process, as the two have collaborated before on "In Living Color," "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls," and the mega-hit "Bruce Almighty." Currently Oedekerk is scripting the sequel "Evan Almighty," starring Steve Carrell.
"Believe It or Not" is based on Robert Ripley, a newspaper columnist, who chronicled his search for the greatest oddities on the planet. Along the way, he learns to appreciate his unusual human discoveries as more than mere conquests to be catalogued. Oedekerk's direction has been approved by the studio and should result in more bang for the buck, when the film is released sometime in 2009.
