Today offers more DVD releases than one would ever want to choose from before the holidays. Surprisingly, the biggest release this week may be a small independent comedy that nearly outgrossed all other titles on this list. Fox Searchlight's $8 million dysfunctional family flick "Little Miss Sunshine" made nearly $60 million during its theatrical run. It was easily the sleeper hit of the summer and is only bound to do better on DVD.

M. Night Shyamalan's most unsuccessful tale to date, "Lady in the Water," hits DVD stores today. It's full of the director's trademark twists, but audiences never quite warmed up to it. The $75 million film only managed to bring in $42 million during its theatrical run.

Disney's feel-good underdog sports drama "Invincible" with Mark Wahlberg and Greg Kinnear proved to be a lot more successful. The flick seems like the perfect gift for the sports fan in the family.

In Ivan Reitman's "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" we get a truly amusing spoof of date movies as well as comic book flicks. Luke Wilson stars as a guy being stalked by an insanely possessive superheroine played by Uma Thurman.

The only film in this bunch that outgrossed "Little Miss Sunshine" was a huge surprise as well. The somewhat derivative drama "Step Up" actually made $65 million in its domestic theatrical run. The DVD release is packed with features and is available for under $15 at WorstStore.com.

Richard Linklater's experimental sci-fi flick "A Scanner Darkly" went largely unnoticed in theaters, but is more likely to be rented, simply due to its intriguing concepts and ideas.

If big name failures are your thing then the star-studded "All the King's Men," with Sean Penn, Jude Law, Anthony Hopkins, and Kate Winslet may be your thing. The film barely even registered at the box-office or with the critics, despite being hyped as a potential awards candidate. Similarly, the horror remake "The Wicker Man" with Nicolas Cage was a doomed failure right from the start. Perhaps the DVD release, which features unrated footage and an alternate ending, might help, but that is highly unlikely.

Jet Li's final kung-fu picture "Fearless" thrilled fans during its theatrical run and should be a great addition to their DVD collection.

The Charles Bukowski biopic, "Factotum," with Matt Dillon and "The Celestine Prophecy" both get released today as well.

The direct to DVD flick "Altered" represents a new endeavor from the writer/director of "The Blair Witch Project." It's a shocking story of four men determined to exact revenge against the savage alien life form that held them prisoner and killed their friend.

"American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile" is already the second film in the "American Pie" series to go straight to DVD. Pretty soon, the "American Pie" tag will be about as worthless as the "National Lampoon's" tag.

Here's this week's TV on DVD:
Er: The Complete Sixth Season
Hogans Heroes - The Complete Fifth Season
Married...with Children - The Complete Sixth Season
The Simpsons - Season 9
The Sopranos - Season Six, Part One
