Robert De Niro Planning Two "The Good Shepherd" SequelsPosted: June 14th, 2010 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Robert De Niro spoke at the Taormina Film Festival, where he was asked about his plans to direct more movies, having already helmed "The Good Shepherd" and "A Bronx Tale."
He said that he will likely direct "two or three" more films in his lifetime, including two more sequels to "The Good Shepherd," an intellectual spy thriller set during the early years of the Cold War.
De Niro said he envisioned a second film starting in 1961, when "The Good Shepherd" ends and spanning until the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall. A third installment, he said, would start after the fall of the Berlin Wall and go forward to the present time.

The Good Shepard was underrated, Damon was great in the role.

Why? The first film was decent but extremely boring at points and a BO failure.

TGS was a good film, but it really dragged in parts. I hope with two sequels, they make them each a little bit leaner on time.

The Good Shepherd was good but VERY slow. A thriller about the 1960 census could have been more action packed

I'll credit The Good Shepherd for giving me a new found appreciation for Damon as a solid actor. And for ending up on my short list of movies I fell asleep to in the theater.
If I have any bouts of insomnia down the road, I'll give the sequels a shot.

@Bunny - and Damon gives all the credit to DeNiro's directing. Matt was on 'Inside the Actor's Studio'... good episode (as they all are... unless it's with an actor I don't care if they got hit by a bus leaving the taping).

He mentioned the idea of this in the commentary on The Good Shepherd.
It would be interesting for a sequel. But he might be pushing it with a trilogy.
