Warner Bros Developing Big-Budget Don Quixote Film

Warner Bros Developing Big-Budget Don Quixote FilmSubmit Comment
Pajiba is reporting that Warner Bros and mega-producer Joel Silver are fast-tracking a big-budget Don Quixote film as eventual tentpole for the studio. It's being described as a "Pirates of the Caribbean"-style swashbuckling version of the story.

This of course means that Terry Gilliam's "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" indie will have some competition. The director has been working on the film for several years, and has recently gained some momentum by attaching Ewan McGregor and Robert Duvall.

Now word on when either project will be released, but it's likely that Gilliam's version will be ignored since there isn't much of an audience for a Don Quixote film. Warner Bros' big-budget version, meanwhile, will likely make a lot of money and have very little to do with the novel.

I didn't know Gilliam started up on that crapshow again. I mean, don't get me wrong- Gilliam's one of my favorite oddball directors but I think he missed the mark on his attempt. If you haven't already, check out that "making of" doc. on it. It was made, like, 10 years ago.

When reading Don Quixote I never once thought "this should be an over the top heap of sh*t like pirates of the carribean." Duvall be careful Gilliam hates old peope.

Tideland was a really awful movie... Haven't seen Dr. Parnassus yet but typically Gilliam is awesome. It's funny his movies lost thier appeal to me around the time I stopped doing drugs... Coincidence?

You know, Warner Bros didn't think about doing this till Terry decided to give it a try again.

Terry, you go ahead and do yours. It will be brilliant. Never mind Warner Brothers. If karmic justice rules, yours will be an artistic triumph of art-house and theres will be a vomit-indusing, digital bouillabaisse of diarrhea and veneral disease on screen.

At least it's not going to be in 3D.
