"Red Dawn" Remake May Never be Released

"Red Dawn" Remake May Never be ReleasedSubmit Comment
"Red Dawn" has a lot of things going for it. It is based on a popular film, it stars Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) and Isabel Lucas (Transformers 2), and has a budget of $75 million.

Unfortunately, the remake will not be hitting theaters on November 24th as planned. In fact, the movie may never be released. "Red Dawn" was made by MGM, which has run out of money and needs a company to purchase it and provide the kind of big investment needed to market and distribute films of this size.

The new movie will focus on a group of teenagers looking to save their town from an invasion of Chinese and Russian soldiers. The original 1984 film starred Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen and C. Thomas Howell.

Sound's a bit like what happened to Sound Of Thunder and when that finally came out it was terrible.

At Least the movie is finished i guess !!

Tomorrow, When The War Began will be better and should be out before Red Dawn.

I agree 'Tommorow when the war began' looks heaps better than this.

Will kinda suck that we might not be able to see Tom Cruises kids getting shot by Hemsworth. That would be a score one for Australia if the film follows the same plot of the orginal

Tomorrow When The War Began was released in 1993, just 9 years after Red Dawn, wherever did he get the idea to write a book about WW III, where kids fight back?
And its in Australia, we don't exactly have guns shops on every corner

Anyway, does anyone know why Cuba was changed to China for the remake?
They were allies in the first movie

Straight to DVD then?

I don't know how to feel about this other than a little relieved that Hwood wont be messing up another 80s classic if this never gets released. Lets face it, the odds of it being better than the original are slim to none, so why bother? Plus, if it were really worth a sh*t, MGM would find a way to release it no matter what their financial situation is at the time. Something tells me this is just another sh*tty 80s remake backed by a sh*tty production company who's obviously no stranger to failure. Its demise is probably completely justified.
Orias writes:

WTF?! I don't know about the rest of you but I want to see it. This one has the Chinese as the villians too, so its an update. if it helps you don't have to think of it as a reboot but a sequel; America gets invaded again!

They shot this movie down the street from me. I really hope they release it in some form. I watched them film it.

"Anyway, does anyone know why Cuba was changed to China for the remake?

The Soviet Union is no more and Russia is to weak on it's own to invade us so they needed another heavy to make the invasion realistic as far as the numbers go 9soldiers and tanks vs. the united states).

God damn, MGM is f*cking retarded. Were you dumbasses really gonna depend just on Bond to keep going FOREVER? Hell, why didn't MGM try to get one of those comic book properties? Then they would not have this problem.

Axtell writes:

So remakes like this that actually look kind of interesting can't get released, but a f*cking karate kid remake has no problem?

MGM needs to pull its head out of its ass already. How long can they go on like this complaining about having no money and it affecting their movies? The Hobbit on hold, the Bond franchise on hold, etc. etc. Just mercy kill these f*cks already.
