John Carpenter to Direct a New Version of "Dracula"

John Carpenter to Direct a New Version of "Dracula"Submit Comment
John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing, Escape From New York) has signed on to direct "Fangland," an updated version of Bram Stoker's "Dracula."

"Fangland" is based on the 2007 novel by former "60 Minutes" producer John Marks. It's centered on a New York-based producer who travels to Romania for an interview with a notorious European arms dealer, who turns out to be a modern-day Dracula.

Mark Wheaton (Friday the 13th, The Messengers) penned the adaptation.

At this point, Carpenter is in post-production on "The Ward" ghost story with Amber Heard starring as a haunted woman in a mental institution.

okay last comment was before i read the plot, that sounds mildly retarded. it could be good, but it could just as easily be sh*t.

Oh god! This plot is terrible! Who wrote that? Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedman?
trailertrash writes:

Carpenter from 1976-1988 could do no wrong IMO , since then he's not made much and what he has made has been sh*t, example Ghost of Mars, man that was a bad movie !!!

He should go back to what he's good at, a handful of good guy characters against a greater evil , us against them horror like the Thing, Escape from Ny, They Live, Assault on P13 and even Prince of Darkness.

That said he's still a horror legend and it will be good to see him making movies again.

Being Dracula AND an Arms Dealer?!

What a kewl life that would be!

Ranger writes:

@trailer - I hear ya.

The Thing.

Vampires - only James Woods could put so much into such a campy role.

I enjoyed both.

Ranger-

James woods , that guy is one crazy dude.

Best scene in The Specialist other than the sex scenes of course lol, is when james wood literally foams at the mouth shouting at Stallone on the phone Awesome. He is a really underatted actor IMO !! Great in once upon a time in america...

Vampires wasn't to bad, i forgot about that one good call....

Long as Dracula isn't an emo p*ssy fighting hairy werewolves and is instead trying to bone something else that's hairy, maybe there's some hope

trailertrash writes:

wonderBOY- Has to be Christopher Lee as Dracula for me, But Oldman was the best thing in Coppola's movie by a mile !!

I like what he did with Vampires, so I got hope for this. The man has one golden egg left to drop so, hopefully this is it.
johnny_boy writes:

I really hope he makes this so violent and raw that women and stupid people won't find vampires so "romantic" and "sweet."

I liked his other vampire films with James Woods and the one with Bon Jovi. I'll check this out.
Ranger writes:

@trailer - yeah. Woods can fly off the handle like that... as in: 'The Hard Way!' (co-starring M.J. Fox) when he goes after that cigarette machine for not dispensing his pack of smokes.

Great scene from The Specialist. I liked Wood's improv moment of telling the old guy to get off the elevator, and 'get a new shirt!'

its sounds like a mans version of interniew with a vampire
Max Rockatansky Junior writes:

Let John Carpenter have his spin with Dracula ... but only if Jack Crow returns to kick ass and take names.
Max Rockatansky Junior writes:
on June 6th, 2010 at 5:51:15 PM

Carpenter cast James Woods as Jack Crow because he wanted "the vampire slayer to be as savage as the prey heís after. James Woods is the kind of guy youíd believe could and would chew off the leg of a vampire." Woods was interested in doing the film because it was something different for him. Contrary to his reputation, Carpenter didnít find the actor difficult to work with because "we had a deal. He would give me one take as itís written and I would let him improvise...Many of his improvisations were brilliant. When I needed him to be more focused and disciplined, I had the take from the script that was straighter."

Now THAT'S a f*ckin' actor, you f*ckin' wannabees :

Michael Cera

Shia LaBoeuf

Channing Tatum

Miley Cyrus

Megan Fox

Zac Effron

Ranger- The Hard Way, i love that movie it should have been a bigger hit and it's one of Michael J Fox's best roles too.

And Wood's 17 take speech was good stuff...

Nice post max !! Wood's is Awesome ..
