Christian Bale to Star in "The Revenant" Revenge Thriller

Christian Bale to Star in "The Revenant" Revenge ThrillerSubmit Comment
Last year, Chud reported that Samuel L Jackson was set to star in "The Revenant," a film that was to be directed by "Oldboy" helmer Park Chan-Wook. Now, according to Bloody-Disgusting, things have slightly changed.

Mark Smith, who has written such films as "Vacancy" and "The Hole in 3D," is also working on "The Revenant" and he has revealed that Christian Bale will star and John Hillcoat (The Road) will direct.

"The Revenant" is based on the true story of frontiersman Hugh Glass (Bale) and is a story of survival and vengeance. Glass, and experienced trapper, adventurer and soldier, is leading a group of trappers along the Missouri River when he is horribly mauled by a grizzly bear. There's not much the men can do for Glass; a small group is left to wait with him until he dies and then bury him. But when hostile Indians are sighted, the men bug off, leaving Glass broken and bleeding with just a rifle to protect himself. Glass improbably survives and hunts down the men who left him behind, intent on getting his vengeance.

there needs to be more revenge movies, disappointed by Edge of Darkness, mainly because i thought Mel would do a lot of dominating.
Hope this ones got some balls to it

That's an awesome story. Go Christian Bale!

So Christian Bale's character (Glass), a man who can handle himself, leads other experienced men along the Missouri River, all of whom accepted any potential risks involved, Glass included included.
An accident occurs involving a bear, he is more than likely not going to survive his wounds but his men stay with him anyway.
His loyal men then fear for their own lives when HOSTILE indians approach, as one would, flee and Glass thinks to himself "a misdeed has befallen me, i must track down and kill my loyal subjects" meanwhile the bear and indians go about their business?

Thats some fine screen writing right there

The Edge + Ravenous + Death Wish + Little Big Man + Jeremiah Johnson ... bits and pieces sown together to make The Revenant ...

I can only anticipate Bale will do his screaming therapy again if a grip or some other stooge gets in front of his light again ... man, I'm hoping so.

"bugs off" wtf does that mean? but this sounds pretty sweet. good director, actor, and plot.
Sinestro writes:

Revenge, being an irrational emotional desire, could drive a man to track down and murder the men who, wanting to save their own lives, left the mortally wounded man to die. I guess. Sounds a bit dodgy. But Hillcoat did a great job with THE PROPOSITION, and Bale is always excellent. Hillcoat is also doing a short based on Rockstar's RED DEAD REDEMPTION. Which is also about another man who has to kill the men who left him for dead.

proposition was awesome so pretty excited about this.

on a batman note- I am watching the mask of the phantasm as I type. it has some similarities to nolan's batman. wonder if he's seen it?

Mask of the Phantasm takes stuff from Year One and Two. If not Nolan, then Goyer read, at least, one of those books. And I'm sure he must have seen the movie, too, since it's one of the best interpretations of Batman to this day.

@monash - LOL, I was thinking the same thing. Who the hell would track down and massacre some fellow woodsman just because they left your *doomed*, bear-eaten body by the river as they fled from crazy Indians? Sounds a bit harsh if you ask me. Shouldn't he just track them down and be like "Hey *ssholes, next time you might want to come back to see if I'm actually dead first, don't ya think??", then proceed to slug them in the face and be done with it.
Im not sure the writer of this story is thinking very logically and/or firing on all cylinders if he thinks that is the norm. f*ck going hiking with that guy!

don't f*ck with batman

Too bad Bart the Bear from 'The Edge' is dead or he would be perfect for this role... Cuz he's a bear...

Sounds familiar Try this MOvie , Man in the wilderness 1971 Richard Harris plot: trapper called Bass (get the name) Survives a bear attack and is left for dead he hunts them down 1 by 1 , this is actually based on a true story the man Glass only left 2 alive one of the was the famous Jim Bridger

Actually guys...if you read the story/accounts of Hugh Glass, you'll see what happens when he does find the guys....it's not what you think. If they stay true to it, then this movie will be awesome. It's a story of revenge, yes, but it's not what you think at the end. I just started reading up on some of these frontier stories and they are some of the best stories I've ever read.

It ain't just screenwriting. It's history. They not only left him, but took everything - including his rifle. Glass had massive injuries, no food, no weapon, not even a coat. Just the bison hide they were planning on burying him in. Don't know how accurate this film will be to history, but he never did kill the two. Bridger was just a kid - 17 y.o. - so Glass let him be. The other guy was an army officer, and killing him would have earned a death sentence. Glass did manage to get his rifle back. He was killed years later by the same tribe that Bridger fled from. Bridger, btw, went on to become something of a legend in Montana with a small but beautiful mountain range named after him just outside of Belgrade/Bozeman. He didn't lose too much over this.
