James Franco is the Lead in "Planet of the Apes" Prequel

James Franco is the Lead in "Planet of the Apes" PrequelSubmit Comment
James Franco (Pineapple Express, Spider-Man) has signed on for the upcoming "Planet of the Apes" prequel, called "Rise of the Apes." According to insiders, Franco beat out a large number of young elite actors for the coveted role.

Described as an origin story, "Apes" is set in present day San Francisco and deals with the aftermath of man's experiments with genetic engineering that lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. Franco will play a driven scientist who becomes a crucial figure in the war between humans and apes.

Visual effects house WETA Digital -- which will employ some of the groundbreaking technologies developed for "Avatar" -- will render photo-realistic apes rather than costumed actors, a first for the series.

"Apes" is directed by Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist) and is set to begin filming in July for a June 24th, 2011 release.

They should have a red ape that's the whore of the ape village. To make it genuine get a hairy red bitch to play the part of a skinny coked out red ape. Lindsy lohan, this is your chance

Hire Susan Boyle for a part of the apes, that will win her an Oscsar since its a part sh can relate to.

Is it just me, or do they call everything "Rise of..." nowdays...

...Next is most likely to be "Rise of Lindsay Lohans passport", I guess.

And you are starring... as the human. It's the part I was born to play, baby!

Lemme guess...He becomes best friends with the Caesar ape or whatever theyre calling the first one. The goverment kills Franco at the end or he dies in some accident and it drives the Apes to lead a revolt.

LOL!!! Franco can't headline a movie. I'm sure all the Franco lovers will kill me for this, but I think outside of playing a stoner the guy might be one of the worst actors in the world. Not trying to be mean, but I seriously think the guy might be mildy retarded or something. This Franco love and POA bullsh*t needs to stop.

CG apes + Franco = Box Office Poison

Mark my words, this movie will fail bigtime!

James Franco follows Marky Mark Wahlberg in the next Planet Of The Apes movie ...

Wow. He must've lost a serious bet with some Tijuana tranny hooker called CleftLip Chiquita Cortez, who works Sunset and Vine ...

'Cause heaven forbid the apes should look fake, while the acting is OSCAR worthy ...

@Trailer
Amen to that, King Kong would go the Coc route if he had to f*ck Susan Boyle to keep the ape species alive

how do you think she got such a high pitched singing voice? The only animal thatwas dumb enough to give her sexual pleasure was coked up dog and she put plenty of peanut butter on her blue waffle and they dog went down her like Lohan does when she needs to pay the bills.

Have nothing against Franco, but this is a stupid idea. Did they learn nothing from Tim Burton's version?
And the only reason we could buy into to this "apes taking over the world"-concept, was because it was never fully explained or explored. Why didn't they try to do that? Because it's a goddamn ridicolous idea.
Man in Black writes:

when are they gonna stop kicking this dead horse the idea for the original in the 70s was perfect but today its campy. burton did an alright job but movie came out 15 years late to capitalize on the first ... 4 movies , the first one is the only real good one

YEah, couldn't care less about this one. One word: WAHLBERG. And then the repressed memories come flooding right back from those pre-9/11 days.

@Triggax: Franco was horrible in way more than just those sh*tty Spidey movies (lol). Remember Annapolis, Flyboys, or Fool's Gold? I can really give a sh*t about the rest of his Mickey Mouse resume, but you did makes a great point. His performance in Spider-Man really killed me the most. Harry was almost as an important charcter in the Spidey saga as Mary Jane, but Raimi completely gaffed in casting someone with such an obvious lack of talent to play the part. Pineapple Express is his only redeeming role imo, and I doubt if some TV after school special about James Dean will change my mind. To each his own though.

They should have an Obama Ape as the first ape president who then turns around and f*cks everything up for the other apes and creates the wastelan you see in Planet of the Apes.
