Ewan McGregor Replaces Johnny Depp in "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote"Submit Comment
Director Terry Gilliam has revealed to Empire magazine that Ewan McGregor has signed on to star in the long-delayed film "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote." McGregor will play the role that Johnny Depp had been set to play in the original, aborted version back in 2000.

McGregor will play a 21st century advertising executive who travels back in time to 17th century Spain, where he meets Don Quixote and becomes involved in adventures with him. Robert Duvall is on board as Quixote.

Gilliam said that he budget is around $20 million, which is $15 million less than what he had for the original. The plan is to begin filming in September.

Remember watching Lost in La Mancha a very interesting Doc*mentary on the ill-fated production of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.

Just seen it on Amazon for 4 bargin wellworth a look if your interested in what goes into the making of a movie from start to finish (well not quite to the finish on this occasion , it's actually pretty tragic from what i remember ).

@trailer- I seen that doc*mentry too, very good insight into what can go wrong on a movie and easily it all falls apart.

Let's hope Gilliam can get it off the ground this time, what I saw in the doc*mentry it looks like it will be a great movie.

@dave- Just ordered it , not seen it for a while 3.99 bargin !!

The other film doc*mentry i like is Hearts of Darkness a Filmmaker's Apocalypse , That was an awesome !!

Poor old Francis getting all pissed off that martin sheen had a heart attack (the booze didn't help) while he was out there, not that he cared (so much) about him he was just worried about the film getting shut down !! Great Stuff!!

@trailer- I knw mate I seen that too, very good doc*mentry on what can/could go wrong on a movie.

Hope it goes well for Gilliam this time, after watching the dcoumentry I could see it was going to be a good movie.

Haha Im pumped for this collaboration.
As much as I love Ewan, his performances are abnormally inconsistent. I hope to see another "The Ghost Writer," not "Amelia" acting.

And Gilliam needs to put his name forward to direct the Wheel of Time movie,he could do the power/travel/weird sh*t thing in his sleep.
