Jon Favreau's "Cowboys and Aliens" Plot RevealedPosted: May 13th, 2010 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
DreamWorks has released the official plot summary for "Cowboys and Aliens," the comic book film that's directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man) and stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell and Noah Ringer. It is set to hit theaters on July 29th, 2011.
Plot: 1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It's a town that lives in fear.
But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.
Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents — townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors — all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

It will probably be funny, and make fun of itself for being cheesy, but I don't think it will be a comedy in the same sense of Airplane and Bad Santa. Probably similar comedy to Small Soldiers or Mars Attacks (two very funny movies)

I really hope this is more serious then comedy cause that plot sounds like I could be f*ckin wicked.but knowing favreau it will probably be more comedy then anything which will be intresting to see craig do.seems like craig was on the rise after bond then he kinda fell off the map for a little bit.

I liked the idea of Ford as a villain but it sounds like he joins the team at some point... Even better!

if the rest of the cast rounds out well... this could be good. But if it doesnt I smell another jonah hex in the works... by the way i'm presuming jonah hex will be terrible.

I'm still on the fence with this one. Though the plot sounds retarded sweet, it has all the possibilities to suck. The casting is nice, but I fear that Sam Rockwell will be given too little screen time.

Ford as the bad guy is an interesting idea , i thought he did a good job in What lies beneath as the bad guy (sorry if you've not seen it)i'm sure his character will be an over the top pantomime type of villain , be good to see him ham it up a bit, his last few film roles have been pretty boring characters.

Is there a comic that's NOT being made into a f*cking movie?

If Daniel Craig trys to do an western American accent this movie will fail miserably. He's just one of you Brits that struggles with it. Tomb Raider might be his worst attempt by far. This film could be extremely cool if they let him keep his natural accent and make it all a part of his mysterious origins. We're dealing with alien abduction here, so maybe they grabbed him in England and dropped him off in Arizona.

Freudian-what does that mean? no offense but the comic books getting made into movies are usually the good ones. Spider-Man,Punisher,Batman, Iron-Man, Watchmen, and others. all good comics.

@SACdaddy, I have to agree with you. Having a horrific fake accent will be a bigger distraction than a misplaced English one. I doubt anyone would cause a fuss over that, especially with the title being "Cowboys and Aliens". Not like we're talking Oscars here.

encoreyourface, agreed. edit out the aliens and make it more down-to-earth (pun intended) this would be cool. i also agree with ranger, ford was awesome as a villain in What Lies Beneath. he wasn't from the beginning though, so i'd like to see him as one from the start.
