"Iron Man 2" Doesn't Break Any Records on Friday

Posted: May 8th, 2010 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"Iron Man 2" DoesnSubmit Comment
"Iron Man 2" grossed $52 million during its opening day on Friday, surpassing the first film's take of $35 million two years ago. While expectations were high, the sequel didn't break any records. It ended up grabbing the seventh highest opening day of all time, surpassing "Spider-Man 3" ($51.3 million).

The highest opening day belongs to "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," which grossed $72.7 million. "The Dark Knight" is in second place with $67.2 million and in first for the highest-grossing weekend of all time with $158.4 million.

Many thought that "Iron Man 2" would be able to take the highest-grossing weekend record from "The Dark Knight," but now it looks like the film will end up in fifth place with roughly $130 million.

Either way, the sequel is performing well. It will obviously surpass the numbers of the original and has already grossed almost $200 million in worldwide ticket sales. Come back on Sunday to see the weekend estimates.

I blame who's ever idea it was to make the final fight turn out the way it did. If done better, I think IM2 coulda been flawless

I agree with Johnny_boy. IM2 was pretty awesome, but paled in comparison with IM1.

I don't think many people thought this would break DK and twilights records.

and yes final whiplash scene should have been longer than 30 seconds

but still great movie

best part was scarlet johansson getting naked in the car followed by some intense ass kicking. i vote black widow movie.

I vote for a Black Widow porn parody!

Twilight is number 1?!?! F*@# me! Now i understand one of Nostradamous' quatrains: The world will end when twilight rules the world... and beiber rules the charts.

More flim-flam sideshow barker hyperbole from Marvel.

"Iron Man 2 is going to outsell every superhero movie ever. It's going to make tons more money then Dark Knight did its opening day..."

Not if you make movies like the government builds roads, and always go with the absolute lowest bidder...

@TheHundreds, umm yeah they did. People have been saying "Heck yeah! IM2 will break DK's opening weekend" for well over a year now. I didn't think it would, and I guess I was right. I will see this, but not in a hurry.

@johnny-boy, before going to the movie no one would know how the final fight turns out. People go based on the marketing and their impression of the first film, as well as critical opinions, which were mixed.

"Iron Man 2" Doesn't Break Any Records on Friday ...

Other than the number of guys wearing long dusters into the theater to spank the monkey during Scarlett's catsuit scenes ....

Other the witty euphemism's Downey sputters like a parrot on adrenachrome and barbiutates ...

Other than show that Mickey Rourke secretly wants to dress up like Master P ....

Other than show that Sam Rockwell is way more underrated than Downey had been in the 80s ....

Other than have more geek boys say " I want that suitcase armor for Christmas! " ....

Other than show that Don Cheadle can kick Terence Howard's ass in acting, even when a CGI suit is covering his face ....

@johnthemon.... I was only saying a comment that if the final battle scene was improved the movie would've been a perfect 10. Still a great movie I'm not telling anyone not to go see it.

Don't worry guys Inception will rip "Twatlights- Gay Poon" when it hits the cinemas.

I think this movie will have more staying power than it will get credit for.

I could care less about box office results. I didn't hoot and holler when TDK broke records so I won't moan when IM2 doesn't.
Box office results don't mean squadoosh to me. Go see the movie you want to see. If it's Twilight, Ironman, or whatever
