"Planet of the Apes" Prequel to Have CG Apes

"Planet of the Apes" Prequel to Have CG ApesSubmit Comment
20th Century Fox has announced that the "Planet of the Apes" prequel, tentatively called "Rise of the Apes," will be released in theaters on June 24th, 2011, which is at the same time as Pixar's "Cars" sequel.

The new movie will be directed by Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist) from a screenplay by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa. The plan is to use the Oscar-winning visual effects house Weta Digital to use the same technologies developed for "Avatar" to create photo-realistic apes. That means there will be no costumed actors.

Rise of the Apes is an origin story. Set in present day San Francisco, the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

Lol what's the point. Avatars situation was good 'cause they were f*cking aliens. f*ck these studio's and these directors and their trying for style rather than subastance.

Just because you go and copy James Cameron and his weta doesn't mean you're cool fags!!!

This just in - "Planet of the Apes" Prequel to Have No Chance at Being a Decent Film!

It's funny how they try to pass the movie's premise as a "cautionary tale".

Be careful with science or you might end up having really smart monkies on your ass (which is not as fun as it sounds, take my word for it).

Planet of apes is a retarded movie and the remake
they did with marky mark was even worse. There's no way this will be even somewhat decent, and I don't care about stupid apes becoming smarter than humans anymore

@trailer, seriously? Pure genius.

And for the record, I saw Kick-Ass last night and loved it. The scene with Big Daddy in the warehouse made me wanna pull out all my John Woo movies when I got home. And I'm seeing Iron Man 2 today, so this makes for a good week. Just wanted to throw that out there.

@Jeff: Is that Obama on a chimpanzee? If so, that's highly inappropiate. If not, make it happen :)
jeffw1978 writes:

@Freud - yes it is Obama on a chimpanzee. It fits with this thread so inappropriate maybe depends on your politics.

CG apes? After the last film they might need to create a CG audience to watch this bullsh*t.
rabid writes:

too bad. the guys in monkey suits was the only cool thing about the original
Ranger writes:

@Spooky - if you're seeking a continuous stream of logical thought out of Hollywood... you'll go batty my friend.

A couple of youngins on here commented that the original PotA sucked. That's your opinion (and you're entitled to it). The first one with Heston was amazing. The sequel I could take with a 6-pack. Admittedly... the additional installments did suck farts out of dead cows via beating a dead horse.

But to write them all off as suckage isn't fair.

And I wonder who is inside Lohan this very minutes... or is she up on the side of the bath tub with one leg up coat-hangering out this past weeks jammed condoms out of her Quonset she calls her man/dildo trap, for Friday nights impending festivities (ie: gang rape).
trailertrash writes:
on May 7th, 2010 at 7:19:15 PM

The first Planet Of the Apes is a classic !! , it was a shame heston's character couldn't have been in Beneath longer (think it was the contract that brought him back),

Hollywood tried once and failed IMO with burton's version , with that really bad ending. You would think they would just leave well alone.

I would rather go and watch the original again at the cinema than another new take on Apes movies !
Max Rockatansky Junior writes:
on May 7th, 2010 at 10:39:16 PM

Will it have a CG script ?

The Escapist was pretty damn good. But I doubt that Hollywood won't help f*ck it up, even if Rupert directs it.
Ranger writes:

@trailer - 'I would rather go and watch the original again at the cinema than another new take on Apes movies!' --- I've been saying stuff like that for decades!

An independent theater in town here should fun a Heston day (with decent breaks in-between - enough to hit a trendy restaurant in the area for a quick bit - make a day of it). Run: Planet of the Apes (first one only), The Omega Man and Soylent Green.
trailertrash writes:

@ranger- that is a great triple bill well worth a day at the movies..

The cinema my wife works at have just added 3 small screens (seats not screen size) with the intention of showing older classic movies like Planet of the apes, Godfather, Raiders of the lost ark, raging bull, bladerunner (which is awesome in the cinema by the way) and even films like wizard of Oz maybe played which is a great idea i think.

There are so many older films i would love to see on the big screen, fingers crossed they are trying to get Dirty Harry how cool would that be to see at the cinema !!
