Mickey Rourke Confirms Genghis Khan Role

Mickey Rourke Confirms Genghis Khan RoleSubmit Comment
Orlando Sentinel caught up with Mickey Rourke on the set of "War of the Gods" to talk about his upcoming projects, which include a Genghis Khan film to be written and directed by John Milius.

"I read [Milius'] script and you know, the man is known for his tough writing," said Rourke. "He wrote 'Conan' and 'Dirty Harry' and 'Apocalypse Now,' and it'll be interesting to see how he works behind the camera. I'm playing Genghis."

He continued: "John wrote as a piece told from the son and grandson's point of view, how they saw this mythic figure from their family. You see him in flashbacks, back when he was in his mid-40s. And back then, being in your mid-40s was being REALLY old."

Part of the reason Rourke was attracted to the role was because of his chihuahuas. He explained: "One of the things I like about Genghis Khan was his love of dogs. The Mongols used dogs in battle, and dogs rarely made it out of the battle. But in one instance, in this script, he orders his men 'Hold the dogs back.' He was looking out for the dogs. I like that."

Rourke said that the film will be shooting in India and China.

John Wayne's 'Ghengis Khan' anyone?

^Didn't that gave pretty much everyone that were involved cancer?

It could be fun seeing Rourke portraying one of the biggest motherf*ckers in history, even though I would've preferred a mongol playing him.

As much as I love a John Milus script ... John Wayne won't be the only one to f*ck up Ghengis Khan. (apologies ahead of time because I think Mick's a great actor. Just not for that role.)

Anyone wants to see a decent film about Gheghis Khan, I recommend Mongol.

It's like a bad parody of the Reece's commercial " Two great artist that don't sound great together ".

Booooo!!! A white guy playing one of the most famous Asians in history is just plain stupid. What's next, Tom Hanks as Martin Luther King?
Max Rockatansky Junior writes:

@SacDaddy.

Exactly. That's why I recommend the movie, Mogol. It's not knock over great, but not bad.

What they need is a guy like Kurosawa to direct a movie about Ghengis Khan (ex : Seven Samurai), who knows how to bring out the best in all of his history ...

What about Chow Yun Fat as Ghengis Khan ? Just thrown' it out as a suggestion.

correction : Mongol, not Mogol.

@ Frudian Nightmare

Apart from ebing known to have a white guy have his eyes glued to give him a mongoloied appereance, apart from being a crappy film. The John Wayne film is known to have been linked to the deaths of many of its cast and crew because it was filmed in an old Nuclear testing range!

I agree w/ Max Rock, The Mongol is a great film on the man and I doubt anyone in America will top it. For anyone with a Netflix account, Mongol is one of the "View it Now" movies.

OK Rourke... are you back into the drugs?!?!

1. Chihuahuas aren't 'dogs'! They're cats that mimic barking.

2. Khan didn't use Chihuahuas in battle, douche-bah! He's used DOGS!

3. Was that picture taken when your dog was alive, or did you have that yappy little bitch stuffed?!
Ranger writes:

I was going to correct... but douche-bah reads better than 'bag'... so, never mind.

f*cking great!!!

Milius again! All hail teh King!!

And Mickey already looks Asian anyway, after all the botched facial surgery.
m2msucks writes:

This movie is going to suck. Let me guess the rest of the cast will also consist of white people pretending to be asian.
joshmihaly writes:

Wtf, this is like The Good Earth from 1937 where they had every main part played by a white guy, even those it is set in China around the 1800s. White people should play, well gosh darnit, white people! Maybe let a f*cking mongol actually play Khan instead of letting The Wrestler over here fake being Mongolian.

Oh and I have lost respect for Rourke with heated passion for chihuahuas. Get the f*ck over it, they died. Get something more manly this time around, hell a shi tzu would be an upgrade.
Max Rockatansky Junior writes:

@Wallace

The guy who directed Mongol was planning a trilogy

@Freudian

He already did. He played Harley Davidson. You couldn't get a character more motherf*cking (awful) than that.

Genghis Khan is a Mongolian guy. Let's put some oriental or black guy as George Washington or John Kennedy in next Hollywood.

Another thing is they will still portray him as a bloodthirsty monster for sure. His army had killed many people in different wars. But it was not todays world. War is war.
But he was NOT a monster or somekind of bloodthirsty killer. History has been misinterpreted for long time same as Hollywood portray Asian people with white man. He was portrayed badly because of history which was written by his enemies.

Please check out following book and you will understand who was Genghis Khan.

Wait, wait! I got it!

MICKEY ROURKE as IDI AMIN !!!!

No! MICKEY ROURKE as MOTHER THERESA !!!!!

No! MICKEY ROURKE as LARRY FLYNT !!!!!

No! MICKEY ROURKE as SARAH PALIN !!!!

Are you getting the message, Hollywood ?
