"Midnight Run" Sequel to Focus on Mardukas' Son

"Midnight Run" Sequel to Focus on MardukasSubmit Comment
MTV News caught up with Robert De Niro to get a few more details on the proposed "Midnight Run" sequel, which will see the actor return as bounty hunter Jack Walsh.

"Yes, we're gonna do, hopefully, a sequel," he said. "The script is pretty good. I don't think [director Martin Brest] would direct it -- we're figuring that out now."

When asked if Charles Grodin would return as Jonathan 'The Duke' Mardukas, De Niro didn't answer but hinted that things are still being worked out. He added that if Grodin would return, it would only be for a cameo since the movie will focus on Mardukas' son. "That where it's going at this point," he explained. "It's [Mardukas'] kid."

The original 1988 film revolves around bounty hunter Jack Walsh (De Niro) who is sent to find and return bail jumper and former Mafia accountant, Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas (Grodin). In order to collect his $100,000 fee, Jack must take The Duke from New York to Los Angeles. However, the Mafia and the FBI have other ideas, as does Marvin (John Ashton), a rival bounty hunter.

Well... this is about my fav. DeNiro film (as Wallstreet is for Douglas for me). I really, really hope they don't f*ck this up, and just crank out a wet fart!

Feels like its just cashing in though, need both the fellas back, and even Marvin! think John Ashtons too old now, may be too late to make it work. Easily up at the top of all time DeNiro movies.

never seen it. worth it?

@Ash - yes. The story... on-screen anti-buddy chemistry between DeNiro and Grodin... the sc*mbag bail bondsman... with his low-life assistant. FBI agents that can't track sh*t. And add a loser bounty hunter in competition with DeNiro's character. Planes, trains and automobiles... and the Owner of Red's Bar (dumber than a bag of rusty hammers!)... all add for a great movie!

Dennis Farina... the Mob... helicopters... explosions...ex-wives... sweet reunions... a bad watch. Chicken-f*cking is discussed...

WTF more could anyone ask for in a movie?!?!
Ranger writes:

But...

If they're making this about Marduka's son... just to fit a cameo in for Grodin... AYT BALL is right... just cashing it. This may end up watered-down (as I hope to God the Wallstreet sequel isn't)!

Chicken f*cking? Dennis Farina? I'll watch it..

@Ari - if I'm lying... I'm dying!

Farina's mouth was a good in this movie as he was in Get Shorty!

Who gives a sh*t ? I mean, I saw " Mumford " and I was surprised Glick didn't claw out Charles Grodin's eyes out in that flick.

@ They'll f* it up. I mean, you see they are also toying with the idea of doing a sequel of Taxi Driver.
